Bluetooth module cable sync issue.
Just picked up the BT module from the efi web site. When it is installed it causes sync issues with my laptop using the cable even when my tablet is not paired. I had to unplug the BT module to use the laptop for tuning. Is their a fix for this? This is a Rev built MS3 but I am sure it is a software setting.

I talked to DIY and they told me it can comm through serial or BT but not both at the same time. Likely what is happening is that when the MS senses the BT powered up, all comms go through there and nothing on serial. That's just a guess but it seems both of our experiences are alike on this..
I rigged my power to my BT so I could quickly unplug it. So that might be the fix. |
Hector is correct. The serial and USB ports share the same uart interface. So they cannot be connected at the same time.

Makes sense. I just ordered a cable so I can run the BT in my glovebox. Where it is now is a total pain to take on and off.

Keep in mind I just moved my ECU to my old passenger airbag location. I ordered a 3 foot cable to drop it down.

My BT adapter is still on the ecu which is behind the passenger seat which is bolted to the floor so big PITA to get to. What I did was use a cable to the BT that had a male USB socket. Then I hardwired a USB power supply with a lead long enough to get to the BT cable and left the two leads exposed so I can connect/disconnect. This also leaves me with an available 5V USB power supply when the BT is not connected should I need it. I could have also just wired up a switch to the USB power supply to turn it on/off but....

Your BT is not powered by the MS? Mine is.

It was a carry over from when I had a DIYPNP. It's the adapter that EFIAnalytics sells.
Also, I have a bastard of an ecu. It's a MS3 Pro module inside the stock 95 ecu case and I didn't use Frank's adapter boards. I installed a DB9 just like the DIYPNP for serial comms and also to attach the BT adapter. It also has a USB comm cable. This way I could pretty much use it any way I wanted. Not pretty but it worked for what I wanted. Honestly I never use it without the BT nowadays. I use my SP3 or Asus T100 for tuning and they both have BT. |
