Boomslang no longer a good method?
I've searched, but haven't found an answer.
This thread on installing a MS has the instructions on the boomslang: https://www.miataturbo.net/useful-saved-posts-8/how-make-install-your-own-diy-megasquirt-13676/ however here: http://miataturbo.wikidot.com/harness-assembly it says: First, being a boomslang. This allows you to plug your MS wiring in between the ecu and factory wiring so the installation can be completely reversible without damage to the factory harness. This method should stop being utilized. It seems like it says the boomslang method should stop being utilized, though it could be read that the hardwire to the harness method is the one that should stop being utilized. I've also had no luck seeing mention of why the boomslang method has fallen out of favor. Clarification please? |
no reason to spend $100 on a boomslang to run parallel. when you can build a direct PNP harness for less than half and run for standalone.

I agree with Brain but it did cost me more than $100 to buy the parts and TOOLS it took to build the harness. It also took several months for the parts to arrive.

I believe we had issues making the MS control idle and ac. We've ironed those issues out. You can still wire it to be reversible, just not in-line with the oem ecu, it completely replaces it.

So if I'm running parallel already w/ a boomslang, is there any reason to switch to stand alone?

Is that still true now that the DIYBOB is available? It seems like its a lot easier than it used to be.
MSIII with a BOB of choice included would be a nice case solution (essential a DIYPNP based on MSIII). These multi-box solutions are a bit dated. |
I'm seeing about $25 for boomslang parts, maybe a $10 difference between harness and boomslang. Doesn't seem like money is the issue... it is more work though... and also more to go wrong, and simple is better.
The same wiki that says it's not the way to go doesn't talk about the ac issue though. |
