building a ms similar to mspnp
 
ok guys i am looking at building my ms but i want one to run the same as the pnp is that possible if so what parts do i need to buy?

i can tell right now that if you want to do this you need to read a lot more. Nobody is going to spoon feed you

ok i read the first link and i believe i have a decent list of things but i guess i should have clarified more this will be used on a 94 motor in a 91 with 91 electronics getting a custom itb gsxr 1000 itb setup. so im assuming ill need to run a stand alone and use the tip120 mod kit. is this correct?
so my list is as follows. please tell me if im missing anything.
MS I EFI system PCB v3.0 $187
Tuning cable (DB9) straight thru 6
USB Adaptor 20
PCB v3 and v2.2 pullup resistors 'mod kit' 2
MS wiring bundle (23" long) 12
IAT sensor kit 29
PCB v3 and v2.2 relay control 'mod kit' 5
PWM IAC Valve control (tip120) 'mod kit' 7
lead bending tool 6
for a total of 274 plus shipping.

And I'd definitely recommend having a Stim (or at least being able to borrow one) while building the MS.

Aah, good ole' driftem...

It's difficult to over-emphasize the important of having access to a JimStim. If you can borrow one from somebody, fine. If not, buy one. They're only $60 and you can sell it once you're done. It will be worth its weight in crack during the process of assembling and testing the MS, as well as while you are learning the ropes on how the software works before you transfer it to the car.

What is the IAC modkit for? Do you guys typically modify the M/C throttle bodies to take an IAC arrangement of some kind?

If it's the FujiRacing kit, they actually retain the IAC valve through a remote vacuum block.

Interesting. In stock form, M/C throttle bodies tend to have no such provision on them. Fast idle is generally accomplished by cracking the butterflies open just a bit via a vairable cam on the throttle stop.

Seems like a lot of work for minimal return...

I was considering doing it myself. But I decided to retain my stock TB with my new IM.

It's a pretty simple concept. I could probably achieve it with a 1/2" chunk of aluminum. IAC has two ports that dump back into the IM behind the butterfly. Simply tap the aluminum with 1/4" fittings and run two lines somewhere into the manifold. That's about all it takes.

+3 for a Stim. Make sure you get one 100%, it is the single most important tool while building and then anything else afterwards.

ok so i need to add a stim to my plans.heres a question some one earlier asked why on the IAC calve control(tip 120)'mod kit'
ill be running gsxr1000 throttle bodys so im not certain will i need the iacv mod kit or not?

ok after a bit more reading i guess im gunna run a boomslang, and well i guess i wont need the iac mod kit. so ive been looking for the boomslang components. i cant find them anyplace that doesnt have a $35 minimum order. does anyone know any places that dont have the minimum price? if not i guess ill be buying enough for 3 boomslangs and selling them for like 10 each.

The link that Brainey posted is pretty slick, and you'd certainly get better cold idle performance if you do something like that. As I said, motorcycles do it a bit differently, but with a drill, a tap, a couple of brass nipple fittings and some aluminum bar stock, it looks like you could replicate the Miata's PWM IAC functionality pretty well.


Don't whine about $35 worth of wiring components. You will readily find buyers for the surplus hardware, as you're not the only one facing this dilemma.

oh im not whining about it. I was just looking to see if there was anything else out there?
as far as brainey's post and link. if i dont run the iacv the only problem ill see is a bad cold idle? if so i may look into building something similar to what you linked. Thanks to everyone who has posted legit responses for me.(sorry just starting to understand the complexities of the ms)

then good i shouldnt have problems i have no a/c and from reading on clubroadster in the itb section i guess i dont need the iacv.it just helps with cold idle and all i have to do is crack open the throttle plates slightly and it should be good.

For $7, I'd suggest that you go ahead and install the PWM IAC mod while you're building the MS. That way you've got it if you ever decide to venture into closed-loop idle control.
