Can standalone be modded to run a 6 cylinder engine?
I have a spare MS build to run standalone and was wondering if it would be possible to modify it to make it run an inline 6 cylinder bmw engine. Im guessing probabaly better off just starting again from scratch ?

Yep, sell it and start from scratch.

Eh?
Just remove any 5 specific mods and then modifiy the MS to control the BMW sensors. Perfectly possible, Job done. |
Yeah, it's really no biggie modifying it to work. Yank off the few Miata-specific mods, probably add a third ignition output (I"m assuming the engine will be wasted-spark), possibly change the sensor inputs (if the douchemobile doesn't have hall/opto sensors) and profit.

FYI there's tons of V8's out there being controlled by a MegaSquirt ECU. Next time if you don't know don't reply ;) |

It can control up to 16 cylinders IIRC, but that's not the question at hand. The OP doesn't want to know if a MS is capable of running the engine, since it absolutely is, he wants to know if it's worth it to stick with the MS he has, which is already set up for a Miata.
The MX5 mods take 5 minutes to remove, it's definately not worth buying a new unit as you suggest. |
