Can't get A/C to work.

I've built a diypnp for my 2000 miata. I've set up A/C exactly per diyautotune's instructions. Every time I look at the transistor for input 1 its blown. I've replaced it twice. Any idea where i should go from here?

Braineack 04-17-2015 07:37 AM

how "exactly" do you have it wired?

ericsbestshot 04-17-2015 10:00 AM

1P to the input and both 1S and 1I to the output and this is on the input 1 circuit.

Braineack 04-17-2015 10:18 AM

and you removed r14 or whatever?

I like to have the MS control the a/c activation and let the MS idle up, so I always take input 1 OUT to PE1.

then I run ALD or WLD to 1S and 1I.

ericsbestshot 04-17-2015 04:05 PM

yes r14 is removed.

ericsbestshot 04-29-2015 02:07 AM

Still having issues with this. I'm not sure what is going on. Still blowing the transistor. As stated above i've got it wired exactly per diypnp instructions, with r14 removed.

Braineack 04-29-2015 07:47 AM

if youre blowing transistors then you have something wired incorrectly.

it's a very simple circuit:

when you turn the a/c on it sends a ground to the input circuit, that in turn sends a ground back out to 1S and 1L--activating the a/c fan and a/c compressor relays.

I'd reach out to DIYAUTOTUNE for better advice.

I'll post this here but bear in mind it's for a 2001!

he's not even bring it into software.

it's going into the relay and right back out. no CPU is involved.

ericsbestshot 04-29-2015 01:12 PM

If I have something wired wrong I can't think of what it could be. It's only three wires. A/C worked great before the DIYPNP install.

Braineack 04-29-2015 02:18 PM

it's more than three wires... it's the circuit the three wires are connected to as well.

so a transistor, 4 resistors, and an IC.

did you install U3 backwards?

ericsbestshot 04-29-2015 02:31 PM

I wasn't aware u3 was part of the circuit so i said to myself "that is a good question". But, yes, u3 is installed correctly.

Braineack 04-29-2015 02:47 PM

move it to input two and see what happens?

ericsbestshot 04-29-2015 07:19 PM

Is input 2 identical? Would I have to remove a resistor for this circuit as well?

Braineack 04-29-2015 07:26 PM

yeah the 2.2K one. cant remember off hand which it is.

ericsbestshot 04-30-2015 02:46 PM

So I started the car with the a/c inputs and outputs now going through input 2 circuit. I cut out the 2.2k resistor. Turned the A/C on and nothing happened. Didn't hear the click of the a/c relay and the transistor for input 2 is just fine. I'll resolder the connections to make sure they are good, but to me they look good.

ericsbestshot 05-03-2015 06:19 PM

Well I got it working. I used input 2. Not sure why input 1 didn't work. Also wired it through pe1 and wled. Thanks for the help everyone.
