Car doesn't start with MS3 Basic
 

I followed the instruction here ( https://trackspeedengineering.com/fi...20V3%20140.pdf ) and installed last night with AEM wideband and car didn't start.

I'm not sure what could be wrong as I followed the instruction pretty closely and reviewed all steps a few times. Made this video and PM'ed Rev but haven't heard back so I figure maybe someone else on MT can spot a noob mistake if I made one.

sounds like you just need a bump in fuel...

The second start attempt we gave it some throttle while cranking but it didn't work. Do you mean try this again but with more throttle or something else?

He means it as in you need to do some tuning. Most likely adding fuel to your cranking settings.

Okay, thanks. I'll do more research into how to do that. I was told it has base map loaded already for my 93 so had assumed the car would at least start without me needing to tweak map.

But at least its good that you guys didn't see any issue with the install itself. Thanks for looking.

A base map "should" get you started, but it varies car to car. Some people have great luck, others have to do some tweaking.

that's the opposite of adding fuel, in fact that reduces fuel, since add air.

You did disconnect the stock TPS and removed the STSIGN fuse, right?

Yup both fuse and TPS are removed. You can see that at the start of my video.

To test I simply by swapped bakc in the old oem WB and old oem ECU, removed air line from TB to MS .. but no other changes. ST fuse is still removed. TPS still disconnected. Car started right away and idled.

again, that the proves my theory. your base tune doesn't have enough fuel.

if it runs without vacuum, ie. 100kPa, then you've basically doubled the amount of fuel on a typical basemap.

Switch your ignition settings to wasted spark, I derped and set it to coil on plug.

That got it started! Though it struggled a bit to do so and immediately was showing super lean on AFR and died instantly at the first touch of throttle ( which adds air and lean it out further as Braineack taught me earlier ). :)

I just got mine running a couple months ago on the same chassis but I have a VVT swap. The biggest thing that gave me trouble was the cold start enrichment was pretty lean(my buddy figured this out as I am still in the learning curve) and it sounds like you may have the same thing going on now that you have it started and it running lean. Ive heard it before and I'm definitely seeing it now, idle is the most difficult thing to get to run like factory.

Is your gauge calibrated properly? Didn't think you could idle an engine at 24:1 lol

Wideband gauge is AEM 30-0300 and its shouldn't need calibration, according to AEM at least.

After that last video, I was talking to a friend and theorized it was possibly a leaky gasket near the WB causing it to read lean. Either way, if the motor starts, then I think I can assume everything 'works' and its a matter of tuning the map. I'm not a tuner so if I'm going to pay for someone to tune it, I'll wait and do it once.

So .. uninstalled the MS / WB and started on my 99 swap. Half way through now. I'll bug Reverant for a 99 map when I'm done. :)
