yeah, except i'm nearly POSITIVE i've had a successful start with that setting. i don't know if upgrading the ecu to 029v firmware from whatever it was before (q?) would affect this or not, but i know i fired it before without touching the input in that box.

so strange. but i also am 99% sure that the to input into MS isn't wired to ground, as it sounds like it should have been. guess that's the risk of not setting up your own MS installation, i had no idea that that a.) should have happened, or b.) didn't happen... i figured my setup from kingofl33t was good to go, as it did start and run the car just fine up until recently (unless it was cold out...)

tonite if it's not pouring i'll try and figure out which wire is the tps one, hopefully without taking the db37 connector apart (that's such a pain...) and wire it, resistor inline, to ground, and set the flood clear box to like 178 or whatever the recommendation is. hopefully that with my newly calculated PW values will get me a lot closer to reliable startage.

as an aside, the megamanual mentions how to calculate the two extreme ends of the cranking PW table, the 160* (operating temp start) and -40* (coldest of the cold), but doesn't mention anything between. i just made linear additions for each bin between those. sound reasonable?

That's a good starting point; you'll end up tweaking it a bit to get it running its best.

yeah, that's what i figured. we'll see once i have a chance to find the TPS input wire and connect it properly to ground...

well, i stopped by radio shack on the way home to get a resistor for the TPS-to-ground wiring. and apparently, the local radio shack doesn't carry electronic components anymore...

regardless, i popped open megatune first thing when i got home and set flood clear to 180, filled in all my calculated PWs and tried to fire it up. nothing, but i WAS seeing the PW numbers i put in while it cranked. a few iterations and SUCCESS!

seems to have no problem starting at the 47* coolant level, 100 or so, 130, and 180. the calculated numbers were way low, though.

w00t!

you cant go to radio shacks inside malls. but any in shopping centers or standalones should have everything you need.

yeah, i know. just popped in to see, on my way home. i'll get the resistor tomorrow, probably and do the re-wiring saturday morning if the weather allows. i'm psyched now though. def need to twak my AE settings, though. almost sputtered out right after i got it to fire.

gonna load DIY's to start and go from there.
