Problem with Tunerstudio and Lost Sync
Hi all,
Here is my setup:
1,8l VVT engine with a Rotrex (10 PSI)
Reverant MS2 (VVT isn't supported)
Innovate LC1 wideband
450cc Rx8 injectors
Walbro fuel pump 190L/h
I've got 2 problems :
First, when I drive and mainly in high RPMs, I have lost syncs.
Lost sync reasons are 31 and 32.
I have done an update of the firmware of the MS2 but nothing changed.
No visual problem with the wiring of the cam sensor and it worked without problem before the MS.
The second problem is that Tunerstudio goes offline when my computer is connected to the MS. It only happens when I drive in high RPMs but not at the same RPM value. With normal driving, I have no problem. I don't know if this problem could be linked with the first one.
You can find a datalog with those lost syncs in the attached files.
The things that I see with this log:
I have to do more VE Analyze in high RPMs but it's not easy because Tunerstudio goes often offline in those values.
Duty cycle is 94,7%, which could be too much.
Lost syncs appears at different RPMs values.
Other than those 2 problems, everything seems to work great.
All advices are welcome.
Thank you very much !
Arny

Maybe it's not the MS2? I've not had the issue on mine at all. Maybe update the drivers?

I had one of my I.T. buddies look at it. He thinks it's a problem with the driver or USB adapter. The adapter I'm using is the one from DIYautotune's website. It worked fine for me for about 2.5 years, but about 6 months ago it started disconnecting as soon as I got into boost. I thought it was something wrong with Tunerstudio but it does seem to be a problem with the adapter according to the failure logs.

My thread on it, but no real solutions.

Chances are that'll use a different COM port so you'll need to connect Tunerstudio by telling it, or selecting the proper COM port. I try and always use the same USB port because if you use a different one Windows assigns yet another COM port.
Hopefully, that resolves it.

I run Tunerstudio on a netbook with Windows7; 2GM Ram, Intel Atom, 120GB SSD. I have 2 Serial > USB cables 1 of which came from DIYAutotune and the 2nd is just a generic that I picked up at Microcenter locally and both work fine.
I'm not sure if XP is a worthwhile OS anymore especially where driver support/upgrades are needed. But that's just my opinion.

The only time I've seen TS disconnect due to injectors, was when low impedance injectors were used (I've seen the same thing on 2 wildly different cars). I don't think that's the case. I used to get disconnects on older cables/driver versions, I haven't seen a disconnect with my laptop/USB cable on any of the cars I've tuned in the last couple of years (hint: lots of cars).

The disconnect in high rpm/boost is an exact same problem I was dealing with early on in my tuning days. "Way back last year."
Mine was caused by interference with ANY length of USB cable between my Rev. MS2e and my laptop. I ended up using serial cable from the MS, all the way to the adapter and the adapter plugs into the laptop. I tired a bunch of different setups, long usb, short usb, the usb that came with DIY's kit, this, that and nothing worked 100% except 100% serial cable with USB adapter at the end plugged into laptop.

I specifically used just this adapter(didn't use the usb cable).
USB to Serial Adapter - Works with TunerStudio! DIYAutoTune.com
And either this serial cable or one just like it.
MegaSquirt Tuning Cable (DB9 Straight Thru) DIYAutoTune.com
But as Bahurd mentioned, he has a 6' usb cable so your money may vary. Maybe had has a nice shielded one or something. This is just what worked for me.
I was so frustrated at trying a million different combinations of cables and adapters and is why I eventually broke down and bought everything from DIY. Because it's supposed to work out of the box with our setups.

I said I had a 6' Serial to USB but I just went and measured it....
It's labeled QVC and the length is 4.5 - 5'
The actual unit I'm using, with no problems on both Win7 and Win8.1 machines is; QVS - USB to Serial Converter
I'm also using a serial extension cable from the same source. Mine's the 10' length and is way long (I'd planned to run it up under the console and still will ).
I used the unit from DIY as well but I damaged it and so wanted to eliminate any potential problems. If I recall, this was $19.95 at Microcenter but you can likely find it online or just check the QVS "where to buy" page.
Seriously, if your still on XP you should upgrade to Win7 at least assuming the machine meets the minimums. XP is known for having USB issues and being sensitive to drivers. Do a google search on the subject. Here, let me...: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Windows+XP+USB+drop+out+issues

My laptop isn't very powerful. I will try with an USB to Serial Adapter. If it doesn't work, I will upgrade to Win7.
This solution could solve my problem with Tunerstudio going offline but my lost sync problem probably comes from another issue because I have lost sync problems even if the laptop is not connected.
