Converting 1.6 from FMU to MSPNP2 - Base Settings?

Hi everyone,

I have a 1990 1.6 that has been running a turbo kit on it for some time. Everything is stock on the engine except it has a slight overbore and recent rebuild (by previous owner with receipts from a shop). The car is running 3-4 PSI on a FMU and i'm planning to convert it to MS2. I bought a wideband, MSPNP2, and am planning on getting some force flow 640cc injectors (I want to buy things that I can swap over to a 1.8 if I go that route in the future).

My question is, I see on DIY autotune there is a 1.6 N/A map, a 1.8 N/A map and a 1.8 turbo map but no 1.6 turbo map. What would be a good starting place? Can I just run the 1.8 turbo map and scale accordingly for injector size?

Here is a thread on the car:

You're gonna have to re-do like 80% of the tune/settings anyway, so yeah, start with any of those

Don't use a 1.8 map. Inputs and outputs are different.

Oh lol,
I didn't even realize that by "map" he means the whole thing including inputs/outputs, just thought he meant fuel/spark.

lol don't blindly use "maps"

I guess that's what i'm asking. Can you guys steer me in the direction of the best map to start with. Would it be the 1.6 N/A map that's listed, or is there a tried and true base map out there that's configured for 1.6 on boost?

there is no such thing with megasquirt, or even most standalones for that matter.

I repeat. THERE IS NO SUCH THING!

Now then, here is what 99.99% here mean by "base map": a map that will allow for your car to start up and at least somewhat idle, and on some cars you can probably drive it around the block or something, without damaging anything. That's about it. After that, you actually have to figure things out, learn, and apply said knowledge to tuning the car. There is no shortcuts

If it was truly possible to make maps for these cars that you can use across the board safely and consistently, I would (being a tuner) have made them by now and just sell them like hot cakes for cheap. Almost no work for me, almost no effort for the end user. It would be amazing. But that's simply not the case unless you're tuning an OEM ecu that's already calibrated for everything, and simply manipulating a few tables.

The pnp better be for a 90 model or you might have a wiring problem in addition to the tuning problem. On many years the wires are in different places on the connectors.

Thanks for the replies. Yes, the MSPNP2 is for a 90-93. I don't expect to drop the 1.6 turbo map on and go tearing down the road. I just want a solid starting point to begin the tuning process. I'm sure i'll have more questions as I go along though.

Flow Force 640cc injectors were ordered today, MSPNP2 and EBC should all be here mid next week. I'm sure i'll have more questions as I get into it. Anyone want to buy a nitrous setup :firedevil?

Thanks,
Nick
