Crank but no fuel or spark, MSPNPPro

I'm out of things to try, and have started to lose hope and patience for my project. Any other ideas of things to check?

Configuration:
Vehicle: Exomotive Exocet Sport
Harness: 99 body and engine harness, greatly cut down for use in my Exocet. 99 donor ran and drove fine for 18 months before I stripped it down. VVT COPs have been re-wired to 99 harness coil wires. VVT solenoid is not yet wired to the MS.
Engine: JDM BP6 VVT engine
ECU: MSPNPPRO99-00
Injectors: GT500 w/ FlowForce install kit. Using the Exomotive fuel kit, which replaces the hard lines w/ -6AN lines.
2 gallons of fresh 93 added to tank last night before trying to fire it up

Situation: turning the key powers the starter and causes engine to turn over, but there is no combustion. Pulled a spark plug out to verify no spark, and the fresh spark plugs are not getting wet from fuel. TPS and coolant temp sensor are passing correct values to TunerStudio, but RPMSs are showing as 0. Tried multiple logs during cranking and none recorded any data.

Troubleshooting done so far: traced back wires for ignition coils, #4 injector, fuel pump, and cam sensor. Verified that all connections are getting 12V and the grounds are all common to chassis and engine ground points (I have rivnuts for 3 chassis grounds (one by fuel pump, one each on passenger and driver side of car. Removed enough systems (lights, windows, stereo, HVAC, windows, door locks, defroster, wipers, etc.) that I consolidated 2 grounding points on the driver's side), engine ground next to dipstick is currently grounded to same place as the driver's side ground, and signal wires for ECU for these circuits are continuous to the ECU pins. Verified signal wires for cam and crankshaft sensors are 5V on the harness side, and moving something ferrous past the sensor causes the voltage to change from 5v to 1.75v, which as far as I can tell indicates those sensors are functioning properly. Verified correct orientation of the crank trigger wheel. Tried basemaps from DIY for both the 99-00 and 01-05 MSPNPPro. Tried a new crankshaft sensor, which gave the same results in a manual test as the original sensor.

sounds like wiring from crank/cam sensors to ecu
if you can't get crank/cam signals in ecu, car will never fire
that would be the 1st thing to figure out

boileralum 05-12-2016 10:33 AM

I traced both wires back to ECU and they are continuous. They also are both getting 5V from the ECU, which changes to 1.75V when waving a piece of steel in front of each of the sensors.

Also, I have removed all the wiring for the stock gauge cluster, as I will be running a Dash2 via CAN from the MS. Is there something in the cluster that would keep an engine from starting if the cluster is completely removed? The wiring diagrams didn't seem to indicate any issues when I was purging the body harness.

18psi 05-12-2016 10:36 AM

So if theyre getting power from ecu how come you dont get crank/cam signals?
perhaps you have the wrong ign trigger settings?

I have started an nb without cluster in place before

boileralum 05-12-2016 10:45 AM

Ignition settings are the default 99-05 miata settings in the stack basemaps downloaded from DIY (megasquirtpnp.com). If I knew why it wasn't coming through I wouldn't be bothering everyone by posting here ;-)

18psi 05-12-2016 10:49 AM

don't think the trigger settings are same for 99-05
should be 99-00 and 01-05

but I could be wrong on that

Have you taken a composite log of trying to start? Not sure if you posted one in the other thread or not.

18psi 05-12-2016 10:53 AM

pretty sure he's saying he did and got nothing for either of the sensors

boileralum 05-12-2016 10:57 AM

Correct. I attempted a composite log, as well as a couple other log types, and none recorded anything.

18psi 05-12-2016 10:59 AM

when you say "anything" you mean nothing at all? or no data from those two sensors?

cause if you got nothing at all, then you got a much bigger problem than just the cas

shuiend 05-12-2016 11:01 AM

So when looking at the composite log tab and trying to start the car you get nothing going across the screen? Not even with it set to save the log?

boileralum 05-12-2016 11:03 AM

Correct - nothing scrolls across the screen

shuiend 05-12-2016 11:05 AM

Just throwing out idea's, what if you throw stock injectors back in and throw in the stock ecu. Then see if it starts or not.

18psi 05-12-2016 11:07 AM

I was about to suggest that too but he gutted the wiring and re-wired 01 cops onto it

shuiend 05-12-2016 11:14 AM

I mean the stock ecu only needs so much to get the car started, would throw CEL's and shit, but assuming injectors/spark and cam/crank, and coolant are wired in. I would think it would start.

18psi 05-12-2016 11:16 AM

maf too

Ohh, yeah forgot about that thing. That could definitely cause some issues.

boileralum 05-12-2016 01:56 PM

I tried stock BP4W ecu, no dice there either. I think my next step is to re-trace every wire in the engine harness to make sure they are still getting a good connection.

boileralum 05-12-2016 01:56 PM

Also had the MAF hooked up when trying the stock ECU. Per the instructions for the MSPNPPro, the MAF is un-needed.
