Damn LC1 peice of shit

My laptop has no serial ports so i bought an adapter from radio shac, to run my LC1 in to the laptop and configure my feeds etc. But i cannot get the LM proprogramer to recognize the LC1. It keeps on asking me for a com port and i have none all i have is USB. So anybody else ran into this problem yet any solutions. This is realy making me wish i had gone with the AEM despite how ricey there gauge is.

Did you install the drivers on your computer for the serial-->USB converter?

Also, I've noticed that my lc-1 doesn't like it when I switch from logworks to lmprogrammer and back. I have to turn the lc off (turn the ignition switch off) or it won't communicate with my laptop.

magnamx-5 03-05-2007 04:30 PM

yes

Braineack 03-05-2007 04:31 PM

then select whatever com port it displays to pick. usually the first one.

magnamx-5 03-05-2007 04:32 PM

tried that tried all the coms still no go

Braineack 03-05-2007 04:34 PM

then you're doing something wrong.

Ben 03-05-2007 04:34 PM

ok then also check that you're using the right port on the lc-1 (I don't remember if you're supposed to use "in" or "out") for your computer connection, and the terminator plug thing has to be plugged into the other port. Both miniplugs have to be snapped in TIGHT. And make all the connections before you turn the lc-1 on.

I will have the program loaded on my laptop, and as soon as the lc-1 comes on with the ign switch, it will handshake and begin communications automatically.

magnamx-5 03-05-2007 04:36 PM

hmm i have it on the out feed cause the infeed is to hook in another WB02 for serial loging of multiple sensors. Why would having the in pluged make any diference my guage works. Just not my usb interface to the LC-1. I made it all up with the battery unpluged and then added juice and proceeded to test. Could my PC be to new? I dont even get an icon in my control panel or networks list for the device. It recognizes i pluged in the adapter but not that is has anything on the other end.

Ben 03-05-2007 04:41 PM

It's been a while since I've had to interface my laptop and lc-1, but I want to say that you have to put the terminator plug in the opposite plug that it's normally in (the one that would be empty), then put the serial cable into where the terminator plug normally is.

But I also could be pulling that outta my ass, like I said it's been a while.

Which ever way the connections are, the terminator plug MUST be plugged in, or the LC-1 won't work. If you're not using the terminator plug, then that's absolutely the problem. Snap it in tight, and if it still doesn't work, reverse the connections.

magnamx-5 03-05-2007 04:44 PM

hmm im gonna try that thx ben :bigtu:

magnamx-5 03-05-2007 04:48 PM

UofACATS 03-05-2007 05:59 PM

I'd laugh, but I've had my share of moments with the wideband as well. Just take ben's advice about connections being tight.

Ditto, tho my problem was a bit of plastic not cut off from the sprue stopping a connection with the bottom of the audio jack......

magnamx-5 03-05-2007 06:40 PM

why do they give you such puny wires it sucks trying to use them on standard bullet and blade connectors.

m2cupcar 03-05-2007 10:08 PM

try folding the wire lead back over the sheathing and then crimping it with the lead face up to the crimper.

Hi Im Simon 03-05-2007 10:57 PM

my friend had similar problems, i believe that he said that it bad qualtiy serial to usb converters. we both use keyspan usb to serial right now, it works great, support for vista too if you use it. it is a bit pricey, about 40 bux's
