Desquirting for a while :(
So ..... Seth @ Dealer Alternative (the original FM shop here in New Jersey) is convinced that my car's massive misfires are due to some problem in the Megasquirt itself. He doesn't think the problem is the retrofitted NA CAS, and he says he spent lots of time checking out the MS wiring harness (which was carefully built by Paul, so I know it's good stuff) ..... meanwhile he says the car runs fine on the stock computer, except during idle, because it's got 460cc injectors.
I can't afford to keep driving a rental car. Thus, tomorrow the 460s come out, 305s go in (thank you OlderGuy), and I stay out of high boost. No biggie; it's winter anyway. Going to send my MS back to DIY (they built it) and let 'em see what they can find. At least I'll get out of this fucking Taurus and back into my Miata. Just for fun, since it'll be on the stock ECU, I'll get to re-experience the infamous MSM "bog" which nobody ever solved. Oh joy. Looking ahead, next month I have to pass OBD-II inspection. Hopefully there won't be any CELs due to the extra fuel (stock was 265cc injectors.) It will be interesting (or maybe scary) to see what my wideband says about the 305s on the stock computer. Sometime in the future, if DIY says my Megasquirt is not broken, then I really want to try adapting a trigger wheel to work with the NB sensors, or attempting MS-2 in parallel. Probably not until next spring at the soonest. Bottom line, for now I am happy to be getting my car back (probably tomorrow or Thursday), but I'm depressed being de-squirted. :( In other news, the woman I recently started dating is kinky and a total airhead. Will probably get bored of her and go back to demure-and-smart women. Until then, at least I'm getting to squirt using another definition! |
I'd look at either sharing the crank wheel with the oem ecu or fitting a separate 36-1. My ms just would not work with the CAS or any other CAS ( I tried 3!!!)
Girl sounds fun though, enjoy!! Then post pics or ban |
At least your evening it out. De-squirt your car, Re-squirt in your girl. If only you had pics.

My CAS in the NB worked first time with no issues apart from fabbing up a little bracket to lock it off and stop it rotating after 10deg base has been synced up with MS.

Edit: Paul says it's locked in place by a bolt. |
It is locked in place by a bolt. If the bolt were loose and the CAS rotated, your timing would be off by a constant amount across the board.
I am leaning towards thinking a parallel MS1 installation on a NB is just not practical, especially considering MS2 will work with the stock triggers. |

The MS2 issue, for me, is OBD-II support -- gotta have it -- unless I want to swap back to stock every two years when it's inspection time. The more I think about that, the more I think that it's ...... not such a bad idea and maybe a lot easier than trying MS2 in parallel or rigging MS1 for a trigger wheel .... See everyone, I can be open-minded!! |
I'm running MS-II on my NA parallel, how cool am I?

Got my car back. It's slow now (running on wastegate pressure, no boost controller) but it seems okay. Next step is to physically remove the MS and harness.
|
why remove everything if it is running alright now?
|
Because its back on the stock ECU. MS was parallel.
