DIY MS Running in germany, but I´m confused
Hi,
as i finished my rebuild of the motor and installed the Begi S1 Kit, i tried to go the ms way. I have an plug´n play connection, so i could switch in a minute back to the emu. First i have to say, it started and after the timing setup was done, the car idles fine. I guess a big goal was to use the hires code with the cap mod. After an drive and some work with the megalogviewer/ve analyzer the fuel work was done. Autotune works but to use the analyzer is a little bit faster. Now it´s ignition time and i´m going to think that i´m retarded :dunno:. Actually i loaded the diypnp spark table from the 90-93pnp map and i´m a little bit confused about the values in it. I´m stuck in my little emu world ;). Maybe someone could swing in an give me some advice to find the right values for the boost area in the map, i´m looking for safe setup. But first i have to understand why the timing starts at 17 and goes up to 30. I know the timing depends on rpm, but i´m really confused. Thanks Dirk |
the value is your absolute timing and not an add or subtract value like emanage

for example 10* would mean the spark fires 10 degrees before TDC.
37 would mean 37 degrees before TDC. |
^Yup, you're thinking too much. The value you see IS the timing.

Still want to know some save values under boost. The map from the pnp should be very safe for an NA-car. So i have to pull some degrees when i´m going into boost like i do with the emu, depending on the values at 100kpa in the pnp map ? Sorry that i have to ask so basic questions? When i´m coming home from work this afternoon, i build a map and post it here. I think it would be an good step to order a knocksense. Any new expierences wit h it? |
The values in the map are reasonable safe but not good ones for best power. We'd recommend tuning it on a steady state dyno to find out what is best for your particular engine. That's the safest way to get a good spark map.

So I should be safe for spark too on first start up with turbo. And just need dyno tunning for the map and spark to increase horspower? I understand that I have to keep an eye on it for knock and etc. Thanks |
It would be drivable but I highly recommend getting it tuned properly once you have the turbo on there.

I feel better now knowing that your map is safe. As you recommended the rest will be done on an dyno. By the way, are the values in your map near to the stock map from the original ecu, especially in the non boost area till 100kpa? |
Safe is a relative term - I would not advise making a quarter mile drag pass on that map. You're more likely to cook a turbo from high EGTs than blow your head gasket from detonation, though. And no, we didn't bother pulling the values out of the stock ECU; we developed it on a chassis dyno.
