DIY PNP Wideband Voltage issue.

I just installed my Innovate MTX-l wideband and I'm having a little trouble with Tunerstudio. I have it connected and it's currently showing the correct AFR in tunerstudio, but the EGO gauge is showing 15-16 volts. I don't understand how that could happen. Also the gauge is VERY twichy. It quickly varies about .5 around the AFR the gauge reads. The gauge itself isn't changing it only varies about .1 (this is all at an idle btw) Has anyone run into this issue before?

why is EGO showing volts? and why it EGO enabled at idle?

then you start describing a gauge that not only readings in a 0-.5:1 AFR spread, but only in a 0-.1:1 AFR spread....please clarify.

Sorry, I'm a bit new to all this. Forgive me. The value that's showing in volts is called "Exhaust Gas Oxygen - egoGague" It also only appears to have a range of 0-1 volts. But like I said, it's showing 15 volts at an idle. This is probably a dumb question but should Ego not be enabled at idle? :dunno: When I say it varies about .5 I mean that the AFR varies. ie. If the MTX-L is reading 14.7 the megasquirt AFR gauge is very quickly varying from 14.4 to 14.9 or 15. Then when I said the gauge itself only varies by .1 I mean to say that the reading varies by .1 AFR ie if its at 14.7 it jumps up and down a little to 14.6 and 14.8. I guess I should really have been more clear. lol

I've never once looked at the EGO gauge you're speaking of, I've looked at the EGO correction gauge to make sure ego is working, that should be in %, as it's an enrichment.

But your problem may be that you still have narrowband selected in your EGO settings.

EGO in MS terms is the code for looking at the real time AFR readings, comparing them to your AFR targets table, and then performing on-the-fly-enrichments to try to make sure your AFRs hit your targets.

No, EGO should no be enabled at idle, it fights with the idle valve and causes osciliation. The less things that change at idle, the easier it is to sustain a perfeclty smooth rpm output.

it's possible the MTX-L gauge has a bit of "lag" and "damping" built into it so it's not cycling numbers too quickly to read. The MTX-L controller updates the MS very quickly, and should always be cycling through numbers.

you want to make sure that the MTX-L gauge and MS read output exactly the same numbers as a given time (or very close) so you know when you are tuning you're not off either too lean or too rich.

I made sure to change all of my settings over to wideband in MS. (project settings, ego settings, and I programmed the MS for the wideband)

Not having ego enabled at idle makes sense. How does one turn it off at idle? The active above rpm setting?

Is there a way to smooth out the Ms a bit? I really can not get an exact reading because it's moving so fast. I can see that it's sort of around where the MTX-l is by it is impossible to compare the numbers.

Thanks for your help by the way.

that is the exact number :)

lol. Alrighty. So active above RPM setting to disable ego at idle?

Braineack 05-21-2012 11:50 AM

yeah use like 1300rpm

Alright. That's a big help. Thanks Brain! :brain:
