Diyautotune boost solenoid problems

I just wired my boost control solenoid and it doesn't seem to be working properly . I wired PA0 to in and out to 2A. I have set it to PA0 in the boost control menu in tunerstudio as well. Right now my lower cells in the boost duty table is set to 100 and all of the mid range is set to 80%. When I look at a data log it doesn't build any more boost then about 8psi no matter what I set the duty table too. I'm on open loop as well. It's been running the same amount of boost no matter what I set the duty table too. I've plumbed it with wastegate to middle port and lower port to boost source( which is attached to my intercooler pipe right before the intake manifold). Could it be a wastegate problem or did I wired it wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

this is a DIYPNP unit?

Yes it is.

and you wired pa0 to boost in and then boost out to your boost solenoid ground?

Yea i wired it to 2a on the pin out board. Just picked one that the main harness didn't plug into

If it's the boost control solenoid DIY sells you need one wire going to +12v source, and one to your port on Ecu, there is no separate ground wire. Then you need to go into advanced settings and make sure the port is actually turned on, not just selected in the boost control menu. A fuse tap on wiper or Windows fuse with a 10a works well.

Ahh ok. So you actually have to go into the advanced settings and turn it on? That may be my problem because I only went into the the boost control menu and set it to the PA0. Which was the what I wired to the IN on my board

Yes try that

So I turned it on in the programmable outputs menu and will give it a try tomorrow. It makes since why it wouldn't work! Will let you know tomorrow thanks for the input!

Does your EBC gets +12V ?

You do not need to enable it in the programmable in/out.

You can use the test mode and see if the EBC ticks.

if you turn pa0 on in programmable outputs as well as boost control, youll end up with a conflict error...

There's a few things you need to do in order to make EBC work correctly.
  1. Build your DIYPNP correctly.
    1. Your selected output must be unused, and go through the physical EBC driver circuit on the DIYPNP PBC before going out to your Boost Solenoid.
    2. In your case: pa0 to boost in. boost out to your boost solenoid ground via whatever pin you decided to put it on to get it out of the DIYPNP and connect to your solenoid.
  2. Wire the solenoid correctly.
    1. One wire attaches to the DIYPNP
    2. One wire gets a switched 12v supply
  3. Plumb the solenoid correctly.
    1. the solenoid needs a boost source.
    2. the solenoid needs to connect to the wastegate.
    3. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...708853016a.png
  4. Boost Control parameters in software needs to be setup correctly.
    1. I'm too impatient at this point to hand hold. Give us less information please. Dont attach your MSQ. Dont explain how you wired 2A back to the solenoid. Dont tell us if you gave the solenoid power or not. be as lazy as possible so we have to do all the heavy lifting.

So I got the solenoid to work when I tested the output in tunerstudio. I can here it clicking but It still doesn't produce any more boost then wastegate pressure. It's an internal wastegate so from your diagram are you saying to hook the boost source vacuum line to the lower port of the solenoid?

I didn't think it'd get any simpler than the diagram that Brain posted, but to spoon feed even more.

As to why it's not working. It's not working because you either have a hardware or software related issue. That's literally the only thing I can tell you with the minimal information you are providing. Pictures? Attach your tune? Do anything other than telling us that it doesn't work?

I found my problem. When I wired it in for the 12v source for the solenoid I wired it to a constant 12v. Changed that to a switched 12v and it works with no problems now!

Braineack 07-25-2016 09:17 AM

where were you previously getting power and where did you move it to?

mmmjesse 07-25-2016 09:30 AM

why would it care if it was switched versus constant 12v?? Voltage side does not have anything to do with controlling it, so long as it has 12v.

I had it on the constant 12v side of a relay that I put in when I wired both fans to come on together. I previously took all my A/C stuff out before I built my turbo kit. I made my own charge side pipe from multiple intercooler pipes from other kits that were laying around from builds
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...0f9baffb9c.jpg
. I noticed when I would turn my car off the ecu would stay on and connected in tunerstudio (which never happened before this). I moved it to the 12v side of the St sign fuse that you pull when you first install the megasquirt ecu

This was before i installed the ebc solenoid obviously but probably the best picture i have of the charge side. Its one piece made from two pipes and tig welded togther.
