DIYAutoTune LCD Digital Dash?

Curious if anyone has used one of these yet. Still don't even have the engine assembled and installed, or even a relay cable built yet.. However I'm always looking for something new to tinker with and this thing looks TOTALLY killer!!

magnamx-5 08-12-2007 07:34 PM

wow but at 400$ i think i will try for better stuff it seems very nice though

elesjuan 08-12-2007 07:45 PM

Yeah the price is why I haven't jumped.. but from what I can tell you can actually tune with it. Save you messing with a notebook

cjernigan 08-12-2007 07:56 PM

It would be very nice to have that. Palms are cheaper though not so awesome.

Matt Cramer 08-13-2007 09:03 AM

We've done a fair amount of testing before we offered it for sale, and it's likely we may even have pictures of it installed in a Miata before long. :) If you have any questions about it, just let me know.

Loki047 08-13-2007 09:51 AM

Its cool, but I would much rather have a dedicated palm (less chance of theft, and if i break it I wont be nearly as pissed)

Atlanta93LE 08-13-2007 10:13 AM

The palm with MS is quite a nice tool to have in the glovebox 24/7.

firedog25 08-13-2007 10:16 AM

Not a bad price for a touchscreen. I'd make a flip out on the side of my center console for it if I installed one.

brgracer 08-13-2007 10:39 AM

Curious as to what sunlight visibility is like.

elesjuan 08-13-2007 02:50 PM

I'd like some high quality high resolution photographs of the display in operation. The quality of the youtube video was pretty bad and it would be nice for a better representation of it.

btw, defiantly want to see some killer install shots of it in a miata. Where the heck would it go??

Any kind of bezel or beauty trim offered? Maybe a small enclosure that would make it portable?

magnamx-5 08-13-2007 03:20 PM

right where brad is putting his portable PC https://www.miataturbo.net/showpost....6&postcount=21

richard_ha 08-13-2007 05:57 PM

I've got a laptop mounted in the boot and a 7" flip out touch screen to control my MS.

Where am I supposed to put my high dollar stereo? :sadwavey::cool:

magnamx-5 08-13-2007 08:40 PM

It runs the stereo to

That would be cool.. but the LCDash doesn't run the stereo unfortunately ;). It's a sweet little touchscreen display with datalogging soon to be added (plug in a USB key and datalog away).

I'm thinking of possibly putting one in our '91 Miata and maybe sticking a 1/2din MP3/WMA player under it. Something like this: http://www.gadgetoptions.com/207202/7237090.html

You can google 'half din mp3 player' to find several options.

As for a bezel that's going to be unique for each car to make it look right-- pretty easy for the Miata though... just put it where the stereo was and use a flat sheet of your material of choice. Black Plastic? Stainless? Red Plexi? Stained Wood? Whatever you want...

cjernigan 08-15-2007 03:50 PM

Those half-din stereo's are nice.
What do you think of the Megaview's Jerry? One might fit in the slot where the NB Airbag switch fits.
*checking size*

FoundSoul 08-15-2007 03:55 PM

The MegaView works well too, it's pretty different from this thing though. It scrolls several variables across the screen. You can freeze it on a certain one if you'd like to watch something specific. It's more affordable, the LCDash is more 'trick'. Options ;)

well, you can always buy one of my car computers and hook it up to megasquirt ;) they are just like high dollar stereos but way better. with navigation, bluetooth, dvd, 100gb hd, and ability to tune your megasquirt.
ps: i will be showing 2 prototypes at HIN in vegas on october 6th. one of them (in my miata) will be hooked up to megasquirt.

Loki047 08-17-2007 08:41 PM

magnamx-5 08-17-2007 08:56 PM

yes i want more info on this car pc stuff so far it still looks expensive at 500 someodd bucks please elaborate Urban

Now, should I chime in pictures of my latest projects? Why not... :)

Testing the ADC inputs and the converter functions on a louzy 128x64 LCD.
http://www.technospirit.gr/images/gauges/lcd_gauge.jpg

Driving mode (240x128).
http://www.technospirit.gr/images/gauges/ultimate1.png

Engine analysis mode (240x128).
http://www.technospirit.gr/images/gauges/ultimate2.png

Still lots of stuff to get in, most notably the data from the MS (VE, PW, IGN Advance, Knock, etc) and the "Racing mode" display.

that's awesome, I presume it just displays?

Any chance of a writeup? ;)

Once things start to get final, sure! For now, it reads data from my MTS chain (Innovate products) plus the MS plus 8 analog (0-5V, 10bit) channels plus a yet undetermined number of "On-Off" (voltage, no voltage) channels (about 10 to 16).

I'm still looking for a way to interface a cheap $15 IR pyrometer to this setup (think 3 infrared pyrometers per wheel) plus infrared beacons to lay around the track (track time plus split times) and of course, datalogging to an MMC/SD card.

Just took some high quality stills of the LCDash and posted them up-- http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/l...irt-p-167.html

neogenesis2004 08-21-2007 07:57 PM

can you comment or take a pic of the daytime visibility of the screen?

FoundSoul 08-21-2007 08:00 PM

I'll put it on the 'to-do' list for this week to take a closer look, if i can get a good picture I will. I'm guessing open top it will wash out like most anything would, but closed top it should be fairly good. More to come...

neogenesis2004 08-21-2007 08:06 PM

Thanks, I appreciate it.

240_to_miata 09-06-2007 11:22 PM

Props to chris ladden for this product, hes from my town and a good friend. He introduced me to megasquirt!

Reverant 09-20-2007 04:53 PM

A couple of shots of my prototype. Hint, it reads stuff from Innovate products (ie LC-1, LM-1, TC-4 etc) via the serial MTS bus!

Pretty awesome stuff man. Now when are you going to mount that badboy? Is it touch screen? How did you get it to read fuel level?

cjernigan 09-20-2007 06:57 PM

Umm, those are two totally different units. The one reverant just posted is his own design utilizing the innovative products daisy chained together using their base unit.
Don't know why i asked is it touch, when i knew the answer though, of course it is. I'm just curious how he got the fuel gauge to work.

Mimime 09-20-2007 08:38 PM

With all those info .. Reverant can mount that to the dash as Tach, and have a steering wheel that controls them.

Reverant 09-21-2007 01:22 AM

I got an instrument cluster fron a '99 for $50, I'm going to gut it and put this LCD and two more (a smallish 128x64 Vs this 240x128, and a bluetooth hands free LCD). The fuel level, I measured the resistance of the fuel tank sensor against the fuel level as shown by the stock fuel level gauge.

It actually isn't, it doesn't make sense since the screen will be mounter on the gauge cluster behind the clear protective plastic. The incar-pc screen is a touchscreen, which makes sense.

Jim

cjernigan 09-21-2007 01:35 AM

I see, I assumed you were going to install that unit in replacement of the incar-pc. That should be nice in replacement of the stock miata system.

eunos1800 09-21-2007 02:18 AM

That's looks fantastic Jim.

Just need you to build me one for me EMU now please ;)

One of the gripes I had with the incar-pc "dash" was that I needed to bootup the PC (ie 60 seconds with no readings) and the screen was a bit low if you need to constantly monitor the readings. No more. :)

We need to get together for a pint mate.
I got shit loads of stuff to ask you.

Could also do with your cable tidying skills as well mate, ;)
As my passenger footwell looks like a bomb went off in a spaghetti factory :(

Thanks for the kudos Richy. The how to is somewhat of a tricky thing as the entire concept will revolve around my specific settings and needs.

The bomb in all off this is that I will propably develop a dedicated Megasquirt datalogger in the process (connect to serial port, press button, logging to MLV-style log starts). I will need to datalog everything from the MS and the MTS chain in a single stream before displaying on the LCD, so this will be fun.

It's a brilliant project, I'm super impressed, and rather jkealous that I don't have the know how to be able to do something similar!

keep posting you progress then I can carry on dooling over your work :)

Tob job again mate

WestfieldMX5 03-20-2008 05:43 PM

I just stumbled across this and I must say that it looks *awesome* :bowrofl:.
Any progress on this? Me want :).

240_to_miata 03-20-2008 05:48 PM

Your's looks great. I am friends with chris ladden (same hometown), one of the developers of the lcdash sold on diyautotunes site and i must say, i really wish his offered all the things urs does right now. Price is still too high for chris' lcdash tho

Reverant 03-21-2008 02:40 AM

Thanks guys. Right now, I'm developing a SSI-24, that would be like an SSI-4 but with 24 inputs (8 analog 0-5V, 16 on/off) so that I can grab everything I need from my sensors (see sig). After that, the display is up next.

Jim

elesjuan 03-21-2008 06:47 PM

Keep up the good work, Jim!!!!

Man what I'd give for something like the MOTEC displace in place of my factory gauge cluster....

http://www.motorsports-exchange.com/.../aim/aimxl.jpg

Yours scaled up would look just as good!

Reverant 03-21-2008 07:10 PM

FYI, my intention is to have this big LCD in the middle (where the tach and the speedo is), with two smaller LCDs (one on each side of the main LCD) where the fuel and water temperature gauges are.

Jim
