DIYPNP Startup Issues - BP4W, 410cc, NA6 chassis
2 Attachment(s)
Alright, I'm having some issues that really have me confused.
Freshly built BP4W RDX 410cc injectors NB cam / crank sensors NA6 coils Sequential fuel Car was previously running this ECU on an NA8 engine with stock ECU and sequential fuel. Using output test: Injector 1 -> Cylinder 1 Injector 2 -> Cylinder 3 Injector 3 -> Cylinder 4 Injector 4 -> Cylinder 2 Coil A sparks cyl 1 & 4 Coil B sparks cyl 2 & 3 Calculated req fuel is 7.8ms. Car would crank / no start. When I flipped trigger angle to 180*, and fattened req fuel to ~12ms, I could get it to start. It ran fairly rough, like it was running on two cylinders. Plugs 1 & 4 show very rich (but running), 2 and 3 covered in soot. I'm assuming the 180* trigger angle means I have the coil outputs swapped? I tried swapping the plug wires to the opposite coil and running 0* trigger angle, but fared no better. All of my sensors, TPS, CLT, and IAT are calibrated and reading correctly. Thanks in advance for any help, msq attached. |
Well, after much head scratching these are my current thoughts.
Coil outputs are flipped, thus the 180* trigger angle. The coil driving 2&3 is either bad, weak, or too little dwell. It sparks ok in output mode with ~4ms dwell, but I'm gathering conflicting information regarding NA6 coils. The "original" MS instructions say 8ms cranking, 5ms running. DIYAutotune basemaps have 6ms cranking, 4.5ms minimum dwell? Also, is it possible that something in the code is broken with a 180* trigger angle... possibly causing 2&3 not to fire? |
how baout you just swap spark A and B and move on with life.
|
Well, I'm going to... I'm just not sure that will magically fix the other issue, since I swapped all the coil wires, set the trigger angle to zero, and still had no start.

The dwell numbers we had were pretty much based off what we'd observed on a stock ECU. It is not too hard to accidentally kill the OEM ignition modules with overdwell, so we wanted to play it safe.
