E85 setup help ms3x
 

Don't mind the other settings in this tune. It is a random tune I pulled off the msextra forum from someone's post just for an example.


I have a question about setup when running E85 on ms3x. I understand that stoich for E85 is 9.8 and 14.7 for reg gas. I want to run E85, but have my wideband and my AFR tables to display the gas scale for tuning ect. I know I could change it to lambda and be done, but I am more familiar with the gas scale and would like to use that. If I set it up in the following manner, will I have the extra fuel I need with E85, but be able to read in the gas scale on my tables and wideband for tuning?

The question I have is, in the required fuel calculator I should use 9.8 in the air-fuel ratio box correct?

and then in the General Setting window under stoich AFR, I should change it to 14.7?

You have not done your research. Leave the AFR stuff alone.

If you are not using a flex sensor, you need to add roughly 35% more fuel by either multiplying your ve table by that amount or changing required fuel for that amount. Then you can start tuning to try and get the fuel close for that particular tank of gas. On subsequent fill ups, you may have enough ego correction to get you close.

If you are using a flex sensor, turn on flex fuel and you are done and ready to start tuning. I can't recommend using a flex sensor enough.

Not running a flex sensor. My local E85 pump is consistently pumping E83 to E88 from testing i've done over the last few months.

So I used 9.8 in my required fuel calculator, and that sets my required fuel to 5.9. With 14.7 it sets my required fuel to 3.9. So that increased my PW by roughly 33% which should get me close enough for start up.

Appreciate the help, just wanted to make sure if I used 9.8 in the required fuel box, that it would get me my extra roughly 30-35% fuel I need and still be able to have the gas scale on my afr tables with my MAF sensor setup.

If your e85 is that high try getting 40% more fuel.

Using the correct e85 stoich for req fuel is fine. Do NOT use anything other than 14.7 in the general settimgs menu with incorporate turned on or you will fark snit up.

Edit: this assumes the AFR table is based on lambda = 1 @ 14.7 AFR

Yup, that's exactly what I am doing. 9.8 in the req fuel and leaving 14.7 in general settings with afr target on, and afr table using 14.7 for stoich.
