EBC settings?

8 Attachment(s)
I recently install an EBC from DIYAutotune (EBC Electronic Boost Control Solenoid Kit DIYAutoTune.com) and I tried to configure boost duty settings tonight.

Whenever boost duty is greater than 0 I hit max boost around the same RPM, regardless of duty. Adjusting duty does not seem to change how quickly boost is building.

If duty is at 0, the car runs as expected with the WG opening around 7 PSI.

Attached is my tune and several logs. The logs have BD ranges in the file name.

Any thoughts on why adjusting duty does not seem to change what RPM I hit max boost at?
Thanks in advance!

not plumbed correctly?

travisb 06-24-2013 07:27 PM

i believe it is correct

I verified it is plumped as shown in the attached figure.

Not exactly sure what you're asking.

In the log 100-70-bd, you briefly tap your overboost limiter. Use less boost control duty cycle for less boost.
In the log 70-50-bd, you never hit your overboost limiter. You were running less duty and got less boost.

You can run all the duty you want at low RPM, but EBC < physics. If there is not enough energy in the exhaust to spin the turbine, you're not going to get more boost.

Sorry for the confusion. I was not going by overboost, but just estimating 10 PSI with my gauge.

See the attached image.

During 3rd gear pulls, I looked for my RPM at 165-170 MAP. The RPM was consistently around 3600-4000 for 165-170 MAP while decreasing boost duty 10% at a time from 100 to 50.

I would expect that at 50% the RPMs would be much higher before hitting my boost target. Correct?

At 0% I hit 154 at 3700.

Any ideas?

so you make an open loop map of all 100% and all 0% there's no difference?

travisb 06-26-2013 08:52 AM

0% is fine and runs as expected with boost limited to about 150kPA because of the actuator.

However boost duty between 100% and 50% seems to be the same: hitting ~165 kPA at ~3800 RPMs.

I did not try below 50% yet, but I'm guessing it will be the same until I hit 0%.

Test it instead of guessing.

its either a setting issue, wiring, or plumbing :)

see how helpful i am?

travisb 06-26-2013 02:54 PM

I don't think the problem is plumbing or wiring. So... settings then... ( https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...3_20-01-00-msq )

I'll try 50% --> 10% on the way home.

Have you done the vTPS mod?

nope, so I am filling the entire table with the same values while testing

Braineack 06-26-2013 03:22 PM

i dont think the TPS can be 0% and allow EBC to work on MSI. there's some trickery you must do that I really cant remember offhand.

travisb 06-26-2013 03:26 PM

in the logs TP is constant 49%

Braineack 06-26-2013 03:27 PM

okay, and you have you tps% column go above and below that?

like this:

TPS%
90
60
40
30
20
0

I did some more testing on the way home. Keep in mind this was on the highway with traffic and mostly 4th and 3rd gear pulls. Most were WOT to 75% throttle.

During my previous testing it looks like I did not lower duty enough to see the changes I expected. It wasn't until I got to 40% and below that I was able to keep a steady boost and not overboost.

See the attached image for a sampling of pulls this afternoon.

Here is a quick rundown:
Duty/MAP/RPM
40/162/4000
30/157/4000
20/154/4600
10/151/3100
0/143/4000
50/167/4000
20/150/3900
90/183/4300

I'll try and find some time over the next few days were I can get consistent pulls at different duties to fine tune it.
