Default idle issue...again

Okay so i got it idle at 900. I drove it around the block and it was perfect. than i drove it to the shop for the ebrake to be fixed and whenever i had the clutch in or in neutral, the car idle erratically. It would bounce between 1 and 2k. Any ideas on a fix?

using DIY's settings for the idle valve?

was it in warmup mode and before and now it's not? lots of variables....could easily be the VE table.

sounds like the idle valve is messed up dude, adjust it and make sure you don't have to much timming retard down low etc.

so what does the timing and fuel do with idle speed? I assume less fuel and less time = lower rpm?

17deg at Idle IMO is too much, I can't get a stable idle even at 14deg with a reasonable AFR.

I found more timing means a higher idle, and less fuel (to a degree) also leads to a higher idle, (but less smooth).

it's all a compromise, find the best setup for yourself and stick with it.

Personally I'd set the idle to 10 - 12 deg and go from there.

Just put the MS at a stable 10 or 17 btdc to lock it in then adjust the screw up or down until the idle is what you want. from there you could ask jerry or some one who knows the code to loook atr your controll software if that does not fix the problem.

All I know is this is one of those things EVERYONE complains about with the OEM ecu's on the miatapower list. Like, monthly there's a thread on it. :-) It always turns out a switch is broken. Does the MS go into a special mode on those conditions, cause the OEM does...

okay, well i lowered my spark to 10 deg and went into the idle setting than put all thec cells around my idle to the same, and set it to warmup only. It is now settled at 900 which i like, and all is good. my question is this, by setting it to warmup only what are the effects? What happens now that i set it like that?

ah you where dumping to much fuel becouse of the AE on idle huh. Yeah that would do it to. The settings you have mean that it will only tryt o stabilize idle when in warm up otherwise the mechanical TB and VE map should keep the idle fairly stable, I am glad you got this right. How does it run with a laod on it now at idle lights AC etc?

Warmup-only mode sets the amount of IAC opening based on engine temperature only - it stops trying to chase a particular idle RPM. So your idle speed may drop a little when the AC turns on.

If it's stable in warm up mode, that means things should be set up close to right. I'd turn the warmup off again, and play with the idle valve settings, oscillations often mean things are "too tight" or "too fast" so make a bigger window about the idle you want and see if it helps? There's a lot in the manual on setting this up it's probably a good place to start - they might have suggestions for good numbers for you.

thanks for all the help. I will attempt to get it right, after i do my emissions. I want to keep a stable idle for that. Im fine with the idle dropping with AC, i dont use it much.
