Enhanced MSII, flashing CEL

I have finally gotten my MP62 and other bits installed. The car starts and runs, however once it is up to temperature and being driven the CEL starts flashing. It sometimes flashes a few times and then pauses, sometimes it flashes for a longer period. I'm not pushing the car at all when this happens, and head for home as soon as it begins. I asked Reverant about this yesterday and he told me it was an indication of overheating. I did remove the radiator as part of my intercooler installation so the system was drained. I have checked the coolant level and it is up to the top of the neck. Water pump belt is fine, no signs of leakage out of the pump itself. The temperature gauge has yet to change its position (slightly to the right of 12 o'clock) during any of this. I checked and slightly adjusted my base timing to 5 degrees BTDC per the BRP instructions I found.

I'm really getting frustrated with this, first had problems with 'charger alignment and now this. If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.

I had the same problem so I plugged the computer in a BAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 230*f water temps and the guage was still pointed at 11:30. Now I have a new radiotor (with less sludge), checked the thermostat, and it appears the problem is gone.

Thanks for that. I have a nearly-new Koyo 37mm radiator (installed last year) so I doubt it's that. I had the thermostat out at one point and it looked fine but I didn't test it. Looks like I'll be draining the system again.

Thermostat installed with the vent up? I recall reading that it's critical to have it up to let the system burp air out.

Distilled or tap water?

Thermo had the vent up, I know about that. I use the 50/50 premix coolant, but if I do mix my own I use distilled. I also know about deposits caused by minerals in tap water (especially where I live, we have hard water).

Have you plugged a laptop in and checked what temp the ECU is reporting rather than guessing at what the issue might be?

Could be something as simple as a sensor calibration or a dead coolant temp sensor

Reverant 07-01-2012 12:00 PM

The CEL is provided by the expansion board, as such it needs no calibration as it is precalibrated. A dead coolant temp sensor might be one of the many possible sources for the problem.
