Expected response "boot", but got ""
Hey guys...hate to come on here just to ask a megasquirt question, but I'm really trying to get this thing running really quickly and I know the supreme Gods of MiataTurbo.net are probably the only ones who can help me.
I am trying to flash my MS1 with Extra 029y4 and keep getting the infamous "expected response "boot" but got "" " error message even with the car in "run" and a boot jumper in place. I have tried 2 different laptops and still no dice. The 2 side lights light up and stay lit, the center light hasn't flashed once. Any ideas would be appreciated. |
lights shouldn't come on with the boot jumper in place IIRC.
|
wellllllllllll then.
I was just using 16 gauge wire as a jumper...is that what I'm supposed to use, or is there more to it? |
Sounds like the boot jumper is not properly installed. If the wire isn't making a solid contact, then it's no different than if it were not installed at all. Try using a paperclip, and bend it so it makes a solid connection to both pins.
|
Well if that's all there is to it, I'm gonna feel like an idiot. Now I am going to walk to lab in the rain though, and I will try that after I walk back. = [
The unit was built by a friend, who loaded the firmware and my old .msq and tested it on a stim...is there any reason that stuff would get messed up during shipping? |
Not likely. What happens when you run portcheck?
|
Portcheck finds a valid port on both my laptop and the netbook I borrowed.
COM3 on the laptop, COM4 on the netbook. I am using the appropriate ones when I run download-firmware.bat and download-firmware x64.bat in the case of my laptop, and still nothing. |
It has been a while, but I believe I had the same error with a certian USB-serial cable. it would work fine for normal connectivity, but i couldn't burn with it for some reason. Bought another cable off of newegg and had no issues since
|
yup that happened to me a while back. It was the stupid ass cable.
|
This exact cable and adapter has been used to burn and to flash firmware before.
It is also DIYautotunes serial adapter, so I'd assume it's solid. I now have no lights on after messing around with the boot jumper, but still get the same error when I run dowload-firmware... = [, I was so happy when the lights went out. EDIT: Actually now the lights won't even turn on without the boot jumper. I am thinking about returning to my old parallel setup, but I really didn't want to do that...was trying to clean up wiring and get some PNP action for when I need to smog. |
If anyone happens to be around Irvine, CA with another computer/serial adapter...holler.
Really trying to get this thing going today, thought it'd be easy like always, guess not. |
I had the same issue. Did you remove that fuse, for the StarterST or whatever it was. I talked to the guy at DIYAutotune, and he said I must have jacked up some resistors in the MSPNP and i'd have to mail it back to him to fix, that was almost a year ago (i'm deployed so not much i can do about it).

well, the issue never really got resolved.
Took the processor out of the board made to run standalone w/ a DIYBOB, and put it into my old parallel-install board, and it flashed first try, on my 64-bit computer, without a bootjumper. So I dunno. Something screwy with the board or harness/BOB. |
