FAB9 COP & MS3 basic. Any issues before I order?
I'm thinking of ditching my stock 00 coils for a set of FAB9 COP's. Will they work happily with my MS3? What changes if any need to be done? I have searched...

They will work fine. I have them on my 99. I installed them a while back before I had MS3x, and when I did install the MS I didn't have to set anything special. You can leave it set as wasted spark, or ask FAB to make you a harness that will be able to run sequential ignition.

I may have gotten a bad set, I was about to ask about the Fab9 system and the MS3 because I am having spark blowout issues at 12 psi with the plugs gapped at .022".
I am going to "soft mount" my stock coils rather than bolting them back into the car to verify it is a problem with the Fab9 setup before I contact them about it. I was hoping I just needed to make an adjustment to the MS3 :( Keith |
I'm NA so I don't have any input on that one :/

I know that the supercharged Miata's running AIDS needed a different igniter from Fab9 due to voltage issues, but I have been informed that it may also be required on cars with the MS3 running forced induction. To the OP, keep that in mind when you order from Fab9 if you are going to be forced induction. I will be contacting them in the morning to verify that this issue also effects the MS3, and I will update this thread when I find out. Later, Keith |
UPDATE:
Just swapped to the stock coils and spark blowout is 100% gone. Definitely an issue with the Fab9 coil on plug old style igniter and the MS3 under boost. I will be contacting them in the AM to arrange replacement of my igniter with the new style igniter. Keith |
Correct - The MS issues were related to an ignition module incompatibility. The ECU was not properly activating our old ignition module. A month or so back we switched to an updated module that has solved the issue. This module is now the standard unit that is shipped with each kit.
