Fans on with defrost on.

It's getting much colder here in Chicago and in the morning's I usually go out to start the car and let it warm up while I finish getting ready for work. The car takes longer to warmup since the fans kick on every minute when I have the heater and defroster on. Is there any way in tuner studio to disable the fans from kicking on at idle when I have defrost on? I'd love to be able to warm the cabin up and defrost windows etc without having my fans kicking on constantly.

My laptop isn't with me at the moment since I left it out at my buddies shop so I haven't done any poking around for obvious settings. So forgive me if this is a silly question.

fans shouldnt be turning on with the heater, only if the a/c button is pushed.

A/C is definitely not on. Anytime I switch over to defrost they kick on. Just in case I'm an idiot and am using the wrong word to describe the defrost setting here's a pic of reference.

Welcome to modern cars, where the a/c compressor runs when the windshield defrost is activated.:bowrofl::brain::giggle:

Yeah, does the A/C kick in? Looks like an MSM quirk.

This could very well be an msm quirk. If I remember right, it does the same thing on the stock ecu.

Pretty much any car made in the last decade or so kicks on the a/c when the windshield defrost is selected. It's to dry the air, which is really more effective at defrosting than just throwing heat at it to try to raise the dew point. It MAY just be an MSM thing, but i'd be highly surprised if all NB2s don't do it.

I know my 2000 Cherokee does it, and that's not exactly something i'd call "overcomplicated."

You can just unplug the wire that is energized when you switch to defrost.
You can still turn the AC on manually as normal, but the auto is disabled.

Remove the AC panel and the wire is on the back.

Its not a problem with MS. Its a problem with the car it self the ac is automatically wired to run when the defrost is on to prevent the windows from fogging up. As said you gotta open up the center console and either cut hte wire or make a toggle switch to turn on the ac when the defrost is on.
