Finally got running on MS, a few minor issues...

1 Attachment(s)
So I finally got my 99 running on my MS-1 parallel. It starts up after cranking a few times, but once it's running it runs pretty good. The AFR is very rich though, like 10:1. I also have a check engine light which I ran the code and it is:
P0325, Knock sensor 1 circuit malfunction
I checked the wiring, and it is run in parallel with the stock ECU, but I don't have it wired to anything. Therefore, the stock ECU should be reading it fine. Perhaps it actually is detecting knock? If I shoot the car with the timing light, it is at 10 degrees advanced at idle. The spark advance gauge on MT reads 17 degrees?
All the other gauges read correctly...
I tried to get it to autotune hoping this would correct the AFR issue, but it doesn't seem to work.
MSQ attached.

I was going to wait for someone more knowledgeable to post first, but i have a couple small ideas.
Did you configure your WB02 sensor correctly in MT? Does your reading in MT match the gauge? I'd imagine if you were really idling at 10:1 you'd be running like crap

I looked at your .msq, nothing stands out to me but the idle cells in your VE table do look quite rich now that I think about it. Do you know how to do real time adjustments to your VE Table? You should read about it in the manual, it explains it better than I could. You can manually lean out your idle that way.

I had a couple other thoughts but i've lost them at this point. I'll edit later if I think of them.

Oh yea, you shouldn't be using autotune yet until you get your ve table hashed out better. Autotune is for very fine adjustments, its not going to help your situation here.

My WB02 is configured properly and the gauge on MT matches the dash gauge. Perhaps a stupid idea, but could this be timing related? Like I mentioned, the pulley shows 10 degrees when I hit it with the light, but MT shows 17 degrees. Is it possible, that MS is thinking it's advanced 17 degrees and it's running it like that, but in reality it's advanced 10?

You're not calibrated properly.

Open MegaTune. Go into "Spark Settings." Set the "Fixed Angle" to 10 (not -10) and burn. Now observe the pulley with the timing light. Adjust the number in "Trigger Angle (Deg)" up or down until the pulley is at -10. Once that's done, change "Fixed Angle" back to -10, and reburn.

So my trigger angle was at 70, I changed -10 to 10 and reburned, then I adjusted to angle to 85 so my car finally read -10 at the pulley. Then I set the 10 in the fixed angle back to -10. So my car is supposed to idle with timing this retarded? Stock idle is 10 degrees advanced, so why would I want to idle differently? Also, this changed my AFR by .5, it now idles at 10.5 instead of 10. What am I doing wrong?

all you did was make sure when the MS is controlling the spark it's actually where it should be in relation to the CAS.

your spark map dictates it idling at 17*, which is normal and where the stock ecu has you idle.

if youre too rich at idle, take a few points of you of VE table around those cells

So it says 17*...If the stock ecu runs it, I can shoot it with the timing light and it'll read 10* advanced, but if it's reading 17* on MT and I shoot it, on the pulley it shows -10*
Maybe I'm losing my mind, but something just doesn't seem right. It idles ok though, doesn't sound like it's gonna stall or anything, but the numbers just don't make sense to me. My fixed angle is at 85, I went up from 70 in 5* increments. It runs fine at 85*, so I went to 90, and the car shut right off.
BTW, my check engine light went out, so apparently it was knocking and the stock ECU picked it up, meaning it is functioning properly.
My VE table is in the 14's for AFR, so why is it idling in the 10's?

So I drove the car today around the block a few times. I runs pretty good when I am on the gas like 1/2 throttle. When I am on a little bit, it runs super rich. This obviously is a VE table issue which I will be working around. One thing that perhaps someone can give me some info on is, when I cold start my car, it cranks and cranks and barely fires off, then sputters and stumbles then finally keeps itself running. The map I uploaded still has my cold start settings in there untouched. Would someone please take a look at it and give me some input? Also, at what KPA should your car be idling at? My car idles at between 21 and 19 inHG in vacuum, but what KPA do you guys experience?

Do you have your 460's installed right now?

patsmx5 02-14-2009 10:37 PM

And your VE table looks like shit too. Get somebody else's VE table that has a similar engine/turbo setup and go from there. Also, reason I asked about your injectors is you have your req. fuel number really high. IE-it's set for stock injectors. IF you're running 460's, you need to adjust that. Then tune the VE table to a decent AFR table.

this is what a VE table should look like:

no major steps, linear, and proven on a dyno. A few spots liked more fuel when building boost...but you need to get on a dyno for anomalies like that.

My car still has the stock injectors in it. I should be getting my 460's back next week as they were sent out to be flow tested, cleaned, etc. That map that you can see wasn't touched when I uploaded it. I looked a little different now, but not too much different. I am going to play with it some more and see if I can get some stuff to change. Anyone have any input on my cold starting issue? Any answers on my KPA question?
