1990 Miata 1.6 5speed, stock engine, GT2560R [GT28] turbocharger with 8PSI wastegate. MegaSquirtPNP MM9093

I’m using TunerStudio registered to tune, and reviewing logs with MegaLogViewer.

-The spark table map is the stock DIYPNP map I haven’t made any modifications to it without a knock sensor
-I tuned the fueling for
900rpm idle & 14.7:1 AFR once warmed up
12:1 AFR at WOT
15:1 AFR at cruise
-Spark settings [trigger angle] are stock from megasquirtpnp.com
-No knock settings/sensor
-TPS is stock 5 speed on/off switch

Finished the car a few days ago, so I haven’t done the cold start settings – but while warmed up, I changed a lot of things to get the car to run a lot better, however there are a LOT of things that still don’t work the way I’d like, or maybe they work as intended, and I’m just a big dumb. There are a number of issues that I can’t seem to work out, no matter what I do. The car pulls good all the way to 7000rpm, but has issues here and there or perhaps there’s something I haven’t configured right.

1. The AFR jitters or seems like it’s not steady, very prominent at idle. The sensor is grounded to the block
2. At almost sea level, I have 20 in hg of vacuum at idle, isn't this a little low?
3. Boost won’t go past 9 PSI, though It makes it around 4400rpm - the BCDuty (EBC) cycle goes to 75% as per settings under WOT, are my settings wrong?
4. From 150 seconds to 167 seconds, 2nd, 3rd, 4th gear WOT pulls to redline (& a little 5th) the AFR’s don’t stay consistent – going from 12.1 – 13.5 even though the boost is holds steady.
5. Why is the Gwarm value at 100 in the log viewer at all times despite the car already being warmed up
6. Under acceleration, the idleDC shows 18 – shouldn’t this be off under wot?
7. What are porta, portb, portc, and portd values in this log file?
8. During steady cruising, there seems to be random hiccups where the AFR will lean out for no reason. The only values I can see changing are Engine goes from 1 to 129, and the idleDC goes from 17 to 22.
9. I can’t get ANY voltage at the TPS, is this normal?
10. What should my barometric correction be set to? Is what I have currently correct?

-Any tips/advice/corrections/ideas/pointers on the following would be helpful if anyone could point me in the right direction, my goal is to
reach 12-13 PSI of boost, I can’t seem to get the EBC to do what I want. A GT28 should be able to go past 9psi, even on a 1.6.

-Get the AFR to stay consistent under WOT – it’s going from 12:1 to 13:1 when boost isn’t changing

-Fix the AFR disparity between the gauge, and the tunerstudio readout – the tunerstudio will read 14.0 while the gauge reads 13.4

Using the EBC from diyautotune – why isn’t my boost controller working? My wastegate spring is 8psi, what do I need to change to get it to open at 12?

-My boost KPA target table is full of 70’s still, but I have no vTPS – is this an issue? Do I need to have vTPS to use the EBC to begin with?

Aside from the above listed, and the cold start/enrichment things I haven’t gotten to – this is my first mspnp project and I’m not entirely sure that my MSQ is correct. If someone could go through the config, logviewer, or even take a look at the attached image, I’d love to know if there’s a different way to go about fixing what’s not working correctly, or what I did wrong to begin with.

I've personally never had much luck with electronic boost control, but I have used several cheap ebay ball and spring boost controllers that have worked well. Not really an answer to the problem, but if you continue to have issues it may be worth trying.

Also DIY's timing map is super conservative. There is a ton of power to be had with some extra timing. Check out: https://www.miataturbo.net/megasquirt-18/dyno-tuning-take-look-fm-we-want-your-timingz-18648/ for more information on timing. There are several good maps that you can look at and get an idea where you may have room for more advance.

If I go to outputs, my output 1 X4/JS2 is set to off and greyed out - how do i enable this?

Under general settings codebase & output functions though, the X4 JS0 function is set to boost control. Which of these is incorrect? How can I enable the output to control boost?

Do I need to install a variable TPS to make this work? Is there something I'm not correctly setting up?

when you look in boost, your accel enrichments are going crazy.

increase your mapdot threshold to say 80 and see what happens.

Where did I read to set it to something crazy like 1000? What will 80 as a setting do? What should the accel time(ms) be?

mapDOT is measured in kPa/second. Basically your rate of change for manifold pressure. It uses this to add in extra fuel under appropriate conditions.

IMO, set your boostDC to something static and leave it there until you've got a better feel for everything else. There is some new code that should help with the PID/closed loop coming out, but honestly, EBC with MS can be a pain all on its own -- better yet, if you have a MBC lying around use that for now. Also, I'm assuming you have ms1 which I'm not intimately familiar with, but you're going to want a variable TPS for use with AE and EBC.

It looks like you need to hit up the docs: http://msextra.com/doc/index.html

A lot of the questions you are asking can be answered there, and you'll want to know the info anyways.

Get your VE table solid first. Autotune is your friend. Then smooth peaks and valleys out manually. And make sure AE is off when you're tuning VE. Brain suggested that for a reason. Then you're going to have to play with MAT corrections to deal with heatsoak from hot starts, etc.
