Is my MS PnP lightning zapped ?
I had removed my MS PnP when I decided that the turbo would need to wait due to "economics" and I started a new job where the distraction of tuning would not help….
This morning I returned the MS PnP to the car after removing stock ECU, the fuse and moving the CAS to the scribed stock timing location.
The motor had been running good when I removed it and had only shown idle issues and was getting along well with the lap top.
The car had also been running great with the stock ECU while the MS was shelved in the garage.
Now with the MS back in the game the car barely stated and fuel could be smelled from the tail pipe.
When I try to connect to the lap top I keep getting the “Would you like to work off line” message as if the laptop could not connect to the MS ECU.
I tried every port and every combination of turning off one then the other etc etc
Went to Rat Shack and bought a new USB to RS232 cable and installed the driver that comes with it but the lap top still does not talk to MS.
I tried to reinstall Mega Tune but I get a message: Unable to execute files/Mega squirt/tools install.bat Create process Failed code 267 The directory name is invalid
Last but not least I uninstalled the virus protection program that I had recently down loaded thinking that this may be interfering but the same thing happens.
I’m wondering if MS got a zapped by a lightning strike just sitting in my garage although I’m not sure that the issue with the lap top is related.
It is really weird !!! I got the lap top to talk to Mega log once but then it stopped.
Any ideas while I look more into this issue ?
Thanks

I used to have a VTPS and tried it out just before removing the MS ? Well, I installed a regulat TPS when I returned the ECU etc back to stock.
The last run MS was configured for a VTPS switch last time it ran so the fact that when I plugged it back in there was a fully closed set of contacts there must have upset it.
I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the comm issue.....
We now return you to your regularly scheduled broadcast

Thanks Matt. Now the MS and lap top are connecting but the LC-1 reads very very rich.
The Log Works program will not connect no matter what I do. I checked off "wide band" in Megatune exhaust settings and configured for default LC-1 - just in case
Anything else ?
Oh, I also put all the LC- 1 and other grounds from the same ground location soldered in to one ring terminal just in case it is a ground issue.

Yes, it is where it was the first time I used Log Works. I secured it there with a piece of tape.
Now, a friend emailed me and he seems to have chosen something other than Lc-1 default in the configuration so this makes me wonder ( ? )
I'm also going to try to do a free air cal to see if that would keep the gage from talking to Log works etc ..... i don't know

Ok, I got the LC-1 and Lap top on speaking terms.
I did the free air cal, and then I configured the MSQ in Mega tune for LC-1 default AGAIN. Maybe I did something wrong before ( ? )
Noticed a lot of drop offs or drop outs when I am connected to the MS and in Megatune. All of the dials just go haywire for a sec or two ....
I still can't connect via log works. I get a message - No real time data detected. Check serial port and connections. Note You must down load Lm-1 log if in 9V mode etc.
The funny thing is that Log works seems to detect when I switch ports on the lap top ( ? )

My LC-1 gage now talks to MS and the readings on the Meagatune display look sort of logicall but I can't get it to talk to Log Works so it is connecting to the lap top.
The little plug termination thingy is where it has always been plugged in but just in case I removed it and reinstalled it. I also re installed the software.
My ohm meter check tells me that the cable that came with the LC-1 has continuity between 3 pins on the end connector and does not short to adjacent pins.
I used to just plug the gauge into the lap top and pull up Log works and it would read on the display. Now I get a message -
"No real time data
detected. Check serial port and connections.
Note You must down load Lm-1
log if in 9V mode etc."
The program seems to detect the current port but then fails to connect and I get the above message.
When I click on connect on LogWorks with the cable disconnected it reads " no port available"
Any ideas what it could be ?
