Flex sensor, ms3x not reading anything?

Car is at the shop, it's getting ready for the dyno, I'm currently away taking care of my gf for an operation and they say the flex sensor reads nothing.

I'm sure I verified continuity to the signal and flex sensor input on the db37.

Aside from enabling in MS, is there anything else that has to be done? Resistor is handled internally already?

Why did you not test this before the dynoooooo.

Post tune.

And is there a flex fault indicator?

aidandj 04-28-2017 12:16 PM

Have them check the sensor plug for 12v and ground.

psyber_0ptix 04-28-2017 12:18 PM

I'm really honestly lame with megasquirt. Adding wires is all I can really do. I didn't have it enabled otherwise and didn't know how to test for things.

I'm away from my laptop sitting in a preop waiting room, I'll see if I can find a semi recent tune in email

GF surgery is probably more important lol.

Attached from earlier this month. Probably won't capture the new map sensor but I didn't touch anything for flex aside from wiring it in to pin 5

aidandj 04-28-2017 12:21 PM

Yeah. Without knowing how they have it set up in the tune I can't help.

Just need to check 12v and ground at the sensor.

psyber_0ptix 04-28-2017 12:28 PM

Yea it's that gut feeling validated and feeling helpless being afar.

I think it just doesn't register anything as far as I've been told. Sensor is grounded directly to the head at the same point as ecu, power and signal is connected to the unused "purge valve" wiring to the ecu.

Right now if it can't be figured out, they will touch up the 93oct tune, drain the tank and save a separate file for e85 tune.

Then when I can figure out the wiring, I'll bring it back and they can merge the two and put it on the dyno for any blending.

Still moving forward even if it has to be temporarily e85 only.

I also have a second flex sensor on the fuel system from the Innovate ecf-1 gauge that ended up being defective and sent out for warranty. I made a suggestion to switch the plugs in case it's the sensor itself.

Megasquirt Support Forum (MSEXTRA) ? MS3pro Flex Fuel NO SIGNAL (View topic)

From basic on phone googlefu, I found the above thread. I know it's for pro, but wonder if it's the same issue.

Does it matter that I used 12V? Matt also recommended not grounding at the head but onto sensor ground at squirt.

Was there anything on my end that still required some use of a resistor? I thought I read that power didn't have to be 5v

Seems I have mine wired very similar to the above, so aside from miswiring or continuity break, I'm not sure what can change. Unless it's something within megasquirt that needs to be done.

Braineack 04-28-2017 01:19 PM

the tune file you posted, flex fuel is still set to disabled.

did you enable it and fill in all the sensor freq stuffs yet?

The tuning shop was supposed to do that.

No resistors on an MS3x setup.

Sensor specs 12v, but it probably would live off of 5v.

OK so I just got in, replaced the o2 sensor in the parking lot since it threw an e8 code. This is the third sensor in two months. Added the hbx-1 heatsink. Hoping it will last a tiny bit longer.

The sensor gets power and has good ground. The continuity in the signal failed on the ecu harness. From sensor pin to ecu plug is fine. Just the pin on the adapter harness isn't connecting. Both sides of the pin pass the beep test so I'm at a loss, I just cut the wires and jumped it outside the ecu plug/adapter harness just to get the dyno time back on the table.

Edit: sad panda, have to reschedule because they loaded another car up.

On the plus, everything works now for real. Oh well, no numbers for another 3 weeks.
