it can only happen on msq burns if there are changes to the ignition settings in the msq that are incompatable with your car. period. end of.

there are no issues with burning msq's and burning out ignitors. You have a seperate issue/it's a co-incidence.

I've had my MS installed for well over a year now, and regulaarly load msq's, (I tend to alter files at my leisure in the house and then re-load in the morning prior to the commute to work). my coils/ignitors are fine.

If you've been 'borrowing' msq's from different people, even if they are from other Miata users, it's very likely the settings could be wrong for your setup. There are two sets of mods floating around there for Miata MegaSquirt setups, mine and Kags, and both require different ignition settings. Map sharing can be dangerous without looking into these things....

yep. and my guess is that i changed an ignition setting between two maps and burned it.

Here is an update on my situation, after burning a fan temperature switch point while driving, the car started tocut out a bunch. I was having issues with cutting out the last few days but thought that it was either low z injector grounding or fried coils. The car was not cutting out at all before I changed that one setting and I had been driving for 2 hours before. What could cause this?

Need more info-- Describe the symptom, does the tach jump? Do you have datalogs when the problem occurs? From what we've got here it just sounds like more of the misfire issues due to needing better grounding with the low-z injectors but I can't be sure. It could be your coil/ignitor giving up if you've heated it up with incorrect ignition settings before (flashing the firmware with the ignitor connected or playing with the settings/other peoples maps), I don't really have enough info to know more... help us out with that and we'll help you back ;)

I do have datalogs of it and they are not very conclusive. The only thing I notice is that the voltage goes wacko when I am accelerating...spiking all over. The tach drops maybe 500rpm for a split second. I do have 2 extra grounds on the MS also.....check my other thread also:

Definitely sounds like it's inadequate grounding as confirmed by your voltage reading flopping all over the place under heavy load, and the low-z injectors are the hi-demand item there. They draw alot more current and it's all got to go through the ECU. If you've got the PWM settings right then you've got three choices, more grounds, add a resistor pack on the injectors and treat them like hi-z injectors, or switch to hi-z injectors.

Just for reference I picked up a set of 460cc RX7 injectors cheap on Ebay, $90, then had them cleaned by Witchhunter for $76. $166 for a full set of hi-z 460cc injectors that are plug-n-play isn't bad...
