I haven't had problems with AFR in boost that needed correction - sometime getting in and out of boost happen to fast for EGO to even react.

The AFR areas where EGO is most needed (as I see it) are idle and cruise.

And that is why if you keeping going with that mentality the blog is going to end with a picture of a hole in the block and will be a "what not to do" blog

Let me fix the one sentence:

I haven't had problems with AFR in boost that needed correction that I have noticed yet - sometime getting in and out of boost happen to fast for EGO to even react, but I will risk my engine by not putting any kind of safeguard on the boosted cells, where it being off can cause the most harm to the motor.

let me be clear:

But I dont run closed loop at WOT either.

There's plenty of cruising situations that you get into a little boost. There's no reason to go into open loop the instant you make boost.

Thank you for the input - I will change/add EGO in boost.

and even then you just need one/two rows for boost.

one for your low boost slightly leaner AFR target and then your target for 11.8:1. all boost above that row would target the same. and also remember MS interpolates between cells.

you really dont need THAT much resolution in the AFR table if youre pretty much just targeting 15.0:1 throughout the entire map. a 1x1 table would be sufficient.

I'd also like to see people start using "include AFR table" in the fueling algorithm.

Mega Miata: Closed Loop Idle

Braineack 12-04-2014 10:19 AM

your adaptive timing curve should have positive and negative values.

and you should be clear about how the curve works: if the idle strays from your idle target by the amount in the curve, it adjusts the timing to get it back instead of opening/closing the idle valve.

so if the idle is ever above your target, you're not using timing to slow it back down.

you can tune it by turning on/off headlights and a/c without idle up active.

Thanks Braineack
Next update I will add that.

Can I take it as a compliment that only my EGO and Idle advance need an update ?
