HELP!! I need the car to run this afternoon.

The car ran this morning on the stock ECU with no problems.

I am supposed to meet someone this afternoon to help clear up my MS issues. In preparing this morning, I reinstalled the MS and tried reflashing it but I forgot to unplug the coils. Still the same problem of garbage in the signature. I removed the MS and plugged the stock plugs back into the stock ECU. The car will now start and immediately die, regardless of the throttle position. I don't think it's the coils since it starts just fine. Am I wrong or is there something else happening? Any ideas?

MAP is hooked up?
where did you run the vaccum for the MAP sensor for MS?

Ric Herber 04-19-2009 03:38 PM

I left the MAP line connected to the MS. I tried disconnecting and plugging the MS line at the source without success.

My car started and immediately died when I first installed my MS. It was the fuel pump not being jumped in the diag box.

I jumped the fuel pump in the diag. box with the stock ECU. I can hear the pump running but the car still starts and dies.

Did you actually check to see if you're getting any kind of spark? Are you hooking your AFM back up with the stock ECU? It should start without it being plugged in but not very well.

Ric Herber 04-19-2009 07:20 PM

The AFM is connected to the stock ECU. I did not disconnect the AFM when I reconnected the MS to try to reflash it again (I run just the IAT sensor with MS) but that shouldn't hurt anything.

I did notice that it will start and die on the stock ECU but will not restart unless the key is turned off and back on. That sounds like the ECU needs to be reset in order to provide any kind of spark. Also, the tach doesn't register at all when it starts and dies.

Is it possible that the stock ECU was somehow damaged?

Well, I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later with all of the reflashing I've been trying because of my MS comm issue.

I sent djcommie a pm about the ignitor. I thought you bought it based on your post in the fs thread. Let's hope it's still available. If it isn't, any one know where I can get one cheap?

Shit! Am I too late?

Naw, sorry, I do that a lot. I needed one, but found one cheaper and closer, and never picked up the extra from him since I was waiting on a couple of other deals to go through that may need the cash. Unfortunately I didn't hear back from those people...

Hopefully I won't need one next time I reflash. It's kind of one of those things you should only do once though. ;)

Thanks to Phillatio, the ignitor went in and the car fired right up. Thanks to all that helped. Now to get back to troubleshooting the MS.
