High-Res Fresh Install
 
I really hate asking this, but requesting someone to hold my hand through this. Maybe it'll help some other poor suckers, while at it.

I've read Saboteur's write up, however it wasn't a fresh install. And I'm assuming Easytherm will be needed somewhere in all this + MS2 Downloader, which isn't mentioned in any HR threads. After reading Brain's write up and then reading about how Cjernigan said it's currently bogus has got me more lost than ever.

AFM present
DIY Parallel MS
Stock 91 - no mods
AEM Uego WB to be welded tomorrow

I have:
1) HR code w/ AFM 10G
2) Megatune
3) Easytherm
4) MSII Downloader
5) MLV

Can someone give me a starting point?

connect to megasquirt through stim or hooked up on the car with ignitor unplugged. Then cycle power to the MS with the bootloader jumped. Open easytherm and select custom, then select the firmware image (.s19) and load it up. Your firmware is now loaded.

Then to set up megatune, go into the megatune folder and copy one of the tuning folders like "car 1" and put the msns-extra.s19 and msns-extra.ini into the main folder and put a copy of the .s19 file into the src folder.

Thats it.

I have never used easytherm to burn, I have always used the batch file provided with the firmware. But isn't he going to have to copy his *factor files to MT as well? So he sees the same temperatures MS sees, in MT.

The way I do it is, create the factor files with easytherm, drop them into the src folder in the firmware and recompile the s19. Then i move the s19 into the folder above and burn it using the batch file. Then copy the factor files into MT.

PS: Please unplug ignitors, don't let us see a WTB ad.

ok, so i've been setting up megatune wrong i guess. Anyway, ive often had comm problems using the batch files so i just use easytherm instead.

Here are unofficial written directions that I wrote.

Here's how to use EasyTherm with MSnS-E. When you open EasyTherm, there will be several options you need to set. It defaults to GM sensor calibrations. On most ready-made units, you will leave the bias resistor value set at 2490 ohms; you'll only change this if you have opened the Megasquirt and swapped out the resistors.

The boxes in the middle of EasyTherm are where you enter the sensor calibration data. You will need the sensor resistance at three temperatures. You can obtain this from a factory service manual or simply by testing the sensors in boiling water, ice water, and water at a
measured room temperature. The sensor needs to be what's known as a negative temperature coefficient thermistor. This is simply a fancy engineering word for saying the resistance goes down as the temperature goes up.

Next, you need to select the code version. You'll set it to "Custom" for MSnS-E firmware such as 029v. Leave the start address alone. Then you get this information into the code by clicking "Write .inc and .s19 Files." It will prompt you to open an S19 file containing the code. Select the file that corresponds to the MSnS-E version you are using.

EasyTherm will generate four files. One is an S19 file that will have the same name as the original with "_mod" added to the end of the file name. The other three are .INC files for MegaTune. Their names are airdenfactor.inc, matfactor.inc, and thermfactor.inc.

EasyTherm can load the S19 file into Megasquirt, too. Power down the Megasquirt, open it up, and put the boot jumper in place. Then connect it to the computer and power it up, ideally on a Stimulator. If you power it up on a car, disconnect Megasquirt from any coils or ignition modules it may be connected to. Then specify the COM port where you have Megasquirt attached and click the "Download to MegaSquirt" button. EasyTherm will prompt you to select the S19 file you need; it will be the one that ends in "_mod" that you've just created. It will then download your newly calibrated firmware. Shut down the Megasquirt, remove the boot jumper, and close its case back up.

If you had the firmware you started with in the same folder as your car project, it will automatically put the INC files in the right place. Otherwise, you'll need to copy them so that MegaTune will be able to correctly interpret the sensor data. The default location for these files is in the EasyTherm folder if you have altered a firmware copy in the EasyTherm folder. They go in the mtCfg folder in your project folder. If the project was named car1 and you have the usual folder setup for MegaSquirt, for example, you would want to copy the INC files to this folder:

C:\Program Files\MegaSquirt\car1\mtCfg

Once you've got that taken care of, you will have your firmware uploaded and MegaTune will know what to expect. This takes care of your sensor calibration.

Create your Firmware file.

1. Open EasyTherm
2. Change the 'Code Version' (towards the bottom on the RHS of the screen) to "Custom"
3. Change the port to your port (COM 1 or what-ever it is) on the bottom of the screen
4. Change the 'Coolant and Air Temp' settings to your desired settings;

90-93: Use Rx7 defaults for thE CLT and GM defaults for the GM AIT. If you are still using the AFM, use rx7 defaults for both.

If piggyback with R7 installed: Use 1280 for CLT and 1450 for AIT for the bias.
If piggyback without R7: Use 2625 for CLT and 1450 for AIT for the bias.
If piggyback without R7 or R4 (recommended): Use 2625 for CLT and 3475 for AIT for the bias.

1. Once you have changed the settings, click on the "Write .inc and .s19 Files" button on the bottom of the EasyTherm screen
2. The file that you want to write to is the 'msns-extra.s19' file from you hr_10g firmware package.

unplug your ignitor, click download to ms, select the new msns-extra_mod.s19 file you just created.
