How hard is it?
I know this question has probably been asked a million times here, and i apologize for making another thread about it. However, i did not see it stickied anywhere. I am wondering how hard it is to build a DIYPNP from DIYAutotune. I am very confident in my DIY abilities overall, however i know very little about electronics. I went to their website and did what i could to research it myself, but i quickly became overwhelmed with information. My '96 is currently NA and i dont plan to do anything too crazy with it. I mainly want it for some basic tuning and data logging features. As well as a few other features such as launch control. I figure it would be a good introduction to it all. So how hard is it to build one and get it running? Is there anywhere with detailed diagrams and instructions to get it done? where can i find help?
Also, it seems like they also offer open project versions of Megasquirt II, that can be customized to a certain car. should i also consider this? or would that be way out of my league? |
its not that bad if you have a DMM and get the stim. the instructions break it down into idiot proof steps. if you can solder and follow instructions you can build an ms 1 or 2. i helped my buddy swap some resistors out of an ms3x and i would avoid that like the plague unless you like working with tiny tweezers and a microscope lol

Alright, i think i am interested in building a MS2 kit for my car. Do they also include instructions specific to what my car would need? or would i have to find that elsewhere. Also i know you can add features to MS2 such as launch control. How difficult would that be?
However, would buying a complete MS1 be a decent option. it seems to have all the features i would want as well. simple fuel tables and data logging mostly. |

Haha i completely agree. I think if i do anything now, im going to buy a completed kit from them for a little extra money. worth it just to know i wont be screwing anything up.

get a kit from braineak or reverant (ms labs).
both are really good, and IMO way WAY better at customer support help than DIY |
How would i go about getting one from them? and would they be about the same price?
|
The price you'll pay from them is worth saving the headache you'll have after you figure out how to build one/ program it.
|
Ya, if they can build me one thats more PNP for my car so i dont have to fool with harnesses or anything. it would be worth it for sure. Do they sell strictly through group buys on this forum?

What car/ year/ setup?

96 miata with the stock 1.8 naturally aspirated. I just want something with basic fuel and ignition control. data logging. maybe stuff like launch control (i know i dont need it for the car, but if i could why not). I'm not doing anything serious with it by any means, just getting the most from the NA motor and playing around with/getting acquainted with tuning my car (i have someone with more tuning experience than i working on it with me, im not going blindly into it).

Not comfortable with soldering? Like others said get a prebuilt unit, or a MSPNP is an option too. Go MSII or MSIII if you can. Faster processor, more I/O, resolution, etc.
|
It's not the soldering that worries me. I can handle that, it's knowing which parts should go where.
|
That's why I pay the extra 100-200 to the people listed above to build me mine.
And it takes all of 2 seconds to figure out how to order units from them. |
