how sensitive is the anoderm?
as i watch the temp nedle when warming up i see it move it degree by degree, how ever after about 175 it will skip 2 to 3 dregrees at a time
it will only show 183, 187 and 190, but nothing in between as the temp goes up and down is this normal, is my sensor about to go, or is it something in my MS viewer? im using the easytherm settings found in this thread for my 97: https://www.miataturbo.net/forum/showthread.php?t=20639 |
They all do that. The reason is that the temperature sensor is read by an 8 bit ADC, and thus there isn't enough resolution in the conversion process to cover every single degree increment.
If you look at your thermfactor.inc file, it'll become clear. Here's a segment covering the range in question: 21 202.82 22 199.23 23 195.83 24 192.59 25 189.50 26 186.55 27 183.72 28 181.01 29 178.40 The first number is the raw data coming out of the ADC, the second number is the temperature that it corresponds to in degrees F. At a raw value of 29, the corresponding temp is 178°. The next step up in the ADC count (28) jumps you three degrees to 181°. The next step (27) takes you to 184°, and so on. |
It's not a linear gauge. The voltage change per degree is much less at higher temps, so this is not surprising. It will have no noticeable affect on the way the engine runs.
