I'm building a stand alone MS and have a couple of questions

Hi,
I'm going to be ordering all the parts to build a stand alone MS system for my 96 turbo. this is the list of items i'll be ordering

1. MS-I PCB3.0 Kit
2. MS tuning cable.
3. pull up resistor mod kit.
4. 18" pigtail harness.
5. MSPNP IAT sensor kit.
6. boost control mod kit.
7. relay control mod kit.
8. PWM IAC mod kit.
9. V2.2 Stimulator.

The idea is to have a full feature standalone. i'm about 70% done reading the mega manual back to back. any other items or mods that i need to add to my purchase list? how about the hall sensor noise and MSnS-E modifications?do i need to worry about those for our car?

read my write-up.

you could save a few buck by not buying the pre-built 18" pigtail, and soldering your own wires. The kit will have a db37 connector and hood, all you need is wire. You can get the loose labeled wire for a bit less.

Looks pretty good. I'll +1 Brainey on buying the loose wire rather than the pigtail, not just for cost but because you may want to re-locate some of the wires relative to the "stock" placements. For example, using the shielded wire for the primary trigger input is both irritating and pointless.

The "tuning cable" is just a DB9 M-F serial cable, nothing special. You will probably need a USB to Serial adapter however if your laptop doesn't have one, and few do these days.

I see the boost control modkit but no solenoid. Presumably you're going to build the circuit now and leave the actual valve for later? (I still haven't installed mine, since I got the MBC working quite well lately)

I'd suggest that instead of the 2.2 Stim you buy the JimStim instead. The reason for this is that the JimStim has a proper wheel simulator, so you can more thoroughly test out your input circuits.

As to sensor noise- maybe, maybe not. Start with the "stock" hall/opto input, preferably triggered off the crankwheel with one tooth cut off (https://www.miataturbo.net/forum/showthread.php?t=21529) and see how that goes.

As to the MSnS-E mods, could you be more specific?
Off the top of my head, you're going to need to do:
1- PWM IAC
2- Dual spark output
3- Relay driver (fan)
4- Second trigger input (if you decide to use CAS)

In case you haven't already found it, the MSnS-extra specific documentation is here: http://www.msextra.com/manuals/MS_Ex...nual_Index.htm

It gives much technical detail on the spark outs, the trigger ins, the relay drivers, and so on... However, for the basics, just follow Brainey's writeup.
