Installing CAS on 99+ car

I know a few of use are going to be installing a CAS on the exhaust side of the engine in order to run megasquirt on the 99-00 and 01-05 cars. Got mine all ready to go in just wondeirng if I will have to take the valve cover off in order to get the CAS in or if I will be able to squeeze it in there with the valve cover on.

I do plan on painting the valve cover later this summer so it will be coming off eventually, but if I could get the CAS on now that would be great.

valve cover is easy to remove, but i suggest you get a hold of "cjernigan" because he just got megasquirt going on his 99.

You don't remove the cam cover to install your CAS.
You loosen the top two 12mm bolts that are the top half of the CAS mount. Then on the passenger end of the "cup" that is inplace of the CAS that you are about to install is another 12mm bolt. Remove it and pull the cup out. I then removed the two top 12mm bolts and pulled the top half of the CAS mount out because the CAS wouldn't fit between the firewall and the motor in order to get it in there. You then just set the CAS back there and install the top half of the mount again. Insert the long bolt used to adjust the angle of the CAS, though it won't matter what position the CAS is in for you. Tighten it all up and you're good to go.
FWIW, go to napa and get an o-ring for the CAS, they're 76 cents. Just remove the one that is on it, and match it up to a SAE size, they're a little thicker than the metric ones they have in stock.

Sorry to ressurrect such an old thread - do I have to adjust the CAS during the MSQ install? Because you wrote it would matter... or what are the correct setup steps in the software for the 90-97 CAS in the 99.

Set the CAS in the middle of it's adjustment, then lock it down tight. From then on use the trigger angle to sync the timing reading at the MS and the crank.
