just got '05 MSM. Bought MSproPNP off ebay. how to check if it works ?
Ok - two weeks ago I bought a nice 2005 MSM with 63,000 miles on it. Wanting to mod it, I first added an Audiovox cruise control.. wasn't too difficult.. then I ordered the FM intake kit with O2 mod. (installed this past weekend)...but then I came across a megasquirt Pro PNP FOR THE MAZDASPEED MIATA on ebay ! I offered the guy $750 and he took it. The ad says "never plugged in, still in plastic". SO, to check to see if I'm getting a working unit, can I just unplug the stock ECU, plug in the MSproPNP and see if the car starts ??? If it starts and runs, should I consider that it is good ??? I want to make sure I'm not getting ripped off, AND, if it doesn't work, I can use ebay's buyer's guarantee and get money back if I have to.
thanks for the help. p.s. - here is the ebay ad..... 2004-2005 Mazdaspeed Miata Megasquirt MSPNP PRO ECU USDM MSPNPPRO-MSM0405 | eBay |
Why don't you start by reading the manual instead of wanting to be spoon fed?

Geez, sorry. I dont have the manual because i'm still waiting for it in the mail, but I'll also look for it online. Just thought I'd ask a simple question... didn't mean to offend anyone ! |
Yes, plug it in. Isn't much to install, jut run a vacuum line. It should start right up. Base map is just a starting point, though.
Read the manual, read the sticky threads here, and understand it all before you start tuning. |
Yes you'll need to run a map line. If this isn't the permenant install, just run it around the windshield and through the window. I'd turn the key on and see if it'll connect to your laptop. Then load the msm basemap (available online) and then try to start it.

Ok guys - thanks for the info. I've already got a vacuum line run through the firewall for the O2 sensor modification that came with my flyin miata intake kit. I'll just use that line. Also, according to diyautotune, there is a base map already loaded in the megasquirt. I really just wanted to plug it in and see if it works to see whether or not I was getting ripped off by buying a broken megasquirt off of ebay. I'm hoping that the car just starts up. I think I've also read that if the laptop connects to it, chances are that it is a working unit. I'll plug it in, start the car and let it run for a second or two, then shut it down and proceed to check the timing, etc... thanks again for all of the advice.. Cheers oh, and by the way, I usually read EVERYTHING I can find on a particular subject, but I just needed some piece of mind. I'm currently reading this book and it's pretty good...... |
