Logging engine data on your phone for track days
 

I've finally got my turbo with a Rev MS2e running well and dyno tuned and I'm going to take it to Laguna Seca for Miatas@MRLS coming up on Oct 1st.

I'd like to run an app on my phone that I can look over after driving sessions to see that everything is wrong well. The MS2e has a OBD II port so I'm assuming I can plug in a generic BL dongle and get data broadcasting.

Is there a good iOS app I can run on my phone that will log the data? I found BL Driver but it doesn't look like it logs data while driving, only gives you realtime info.

I've see Torque Pro mentioned but seems to be android only. If the only good apps are for android then I might get a cheap android phone and not activate it and just use it on Wifi and BL.

Any advice is appreciated since I'll be traveling for the two weeks prior to the track event and I'll probably order stuff to be delivered while I'm gone and setup the night before.

Logging over bluetooth is terrible, the bandwith just ain't there.

Iphones are also terrible, especially the bluetooth protocol. Their closed system doesn't make it easy on app writers, and it nerfs 100% of the ELM327 bluetooth dongles. I think you'd be best finding the cheapest USBOTG compatible android phone you can, then just run MSdroid straight off the megasquirt serial cable.

I've never tried logging straight from the rev OBD2 module, but I know it doesn't log anywhere near as much as you can get over serial data straight from the megasquirt.

And rs232 to bluetooth modules are either expensive and bulky or a configuration pain in the ass and slow as shit. I gave up on mine, it logged at 1hz or slower even after disabling a whole bunch of what I was logging.

I have an ebay hc05 chip soldered inside my ecu.

Just checked a log. Full logs, about 8hz.

I have three of those, all terribad. You don't have to flash them to run at 11000 baud or whatever? All but one keep forgetting the config I flash over, then they never connect again. Am I just getting bad ones?

I've used over 50 of them. All my gps modules have them.

Never had an issue.

I have a serial>bluetooth adapter and an old HTC phone in the center console. Zero issues with logging rate or anything else. I bought it from EFI Analytics because I didn't want to screw with flashing it or doing any setup, and it worked perfectly right out of the box.
