Default Holy File Corruption Batman!!!

Ok so I have been trying to fix my cold idle problem during the cold weather spell and found **** along the way like strange settings in After Start Settings, VE tables, AFR target tables, Base Timing Settings etc.

Turns out the few MSQs that I keep all seem to have something hosed in one way or another.....

I found a copy of one of my old MSQs here
https://www.miataturbo.net/forum/t29956-6/

This was created right after I rescaled both the AFR and VE table and it has
all the settings that as I remembered were from just minor changes from the
base tune.

The file can be opened with both MT and TS and the settings remain the same.
The only thing that came up was a prompt to select the type of A/F or
something like that.

I also found a folder in my saved Docs that contained duplicate copies of
some MSQs that I had been working on. These show some of the random changes but not all of what I found in the working copies.

So basically by going back to the earlier files it started out with everything "correct" and as I review older to newer files it seems that things started to corrupt or change.

While it is possible that I could have changed something by saving or
burning the incorrect version of a file. My best guess at this point is that
using the lap top with Megatune glitching or farting all over the place
screwed things up.

So I'm basically back to square one since I don't know if my cold idle
issues were all results of bogus/corrupt settings or what. ( ? ) The few tuning sessions that I did are also NG.

I'll also have to somehow keep an eye on what happens if and when I connect to the ECU to see if anything changes.

Well, I hope this helps somehow to help someone else with a similar
problem...Anybody with info or insight please do chime in.

I just had an issue where tunerstudio must have kept some settings in memory and added them every time I loaded an msq. I was getting a pin conflict between boost control and coil on plug output.

After help from Matt I realized along the way that I had created the problem by flashing the ms2 firmware instead of the us2 firmware to my diypnp.

The diypnp accepted the new us2 firmware flash, but tunerstudio kept reverting to the old settings.

I uninstalled tunerstudio and reinstalled it. All is well now with my ride. starts and idles properly after warmup (Thanks Matt and Brain).

I get a giant FAIL on this one

You may be on to something... I followed the instructions posted here for Tuner Studio https://www.miataturbo.net/forum/t40159/

I clicked on "Detect" in the Tuner Studio sub screen with my PnP plugged into the lap top but there is a big portion or pic in the thread that I can't view due to what I think is a missing windows XP viewer or something. The image appears to be part of the rest of the instructions...

So I'm not sure if I followed the instructions correctly as far as the firmware.

How did you notice the corruption, were you just reviewing settings, or was it because of how the car was running?

I would go back to a known good .msq and it would ask which settings I wanted to keep (controller or tunerstudio). No matter which one I picked, after I powercycled the ecu I would get a pin conflict error. The same thing happened after I reflashed the appropriate firmware. Then under boost control my only option for output was fidle. I realized it was tunerstudion when I hooked my ecu up to my desktop computer and all was well with 3.0.3r. I figured it must be something to do with tunerstudio at that point.

P
Poobs,

Here is what fixed my problem with the cold running and idle issues. It turned out that when I used the req fuel calculator I was using a target afr of 12.7. I think DIYautotune recommended doing this. Brain gave me some help adn I noticed his req fuel value was with a 14.7 afr target. I recalced mine with 14.7 and voila. It starts better, and now the idle settlls to around 700-800 rpm when it is warm instead of the 1500 rpm previously.

I also don't like the AIT corrections table used in the basemap.

I agree. I followed your recommendation of using the RX7 for CLT and GM for IAT. My clt and IAT were within 2 degrees of one another before I started the car.

The car was running like crap and I blamed on the cold weather.
It did not seem to respond to changes via the Cold Idle wizard so I sent DIY a log and asked for advice.
They found some alternator spikes and I spend some time trying to isolate those from regular comm re sets.
Every time I'd get back to tuning/tweaking I would stumble on to something weird.
The first thing was the After Run Settings. I had never touched them but they were different so I fixed them.
Then I went to tweak the idle cells to get the warm idle in shape but the VE tables at a lot of really odd values. The KPA scaling was also way off.
After that I noticed my initial timing setting of 58 degrees was back to the default 65. Thiss may had made the timing retarded.
Last but not least the AFR table was found to have re scaled from 0 to a max of 20 KPA.

When I reviewed my saved MSQs I found that two versions of the same MSQ saved on different folders ( Main and back up) had different settings etc. Unfortunately I must have used MSQs from both folders so I could not tell the ones that were "original"

Fortunately I had posted an early MSQ on line and so I retrieved it and pluged the settings that were needed for things like the COPs (dwell )

I've not been able to get to actually burn it in yet. Once I do I'm tempted to try to reproduce the problem since I don't know exactly how it takes place.

Thumbs up

Well, I loaded the above MSQ and played around with cold idle for a while and also opened the same MSQ switching back/forth between TS and MT but don't see any corruption.

Thank you all for your input
