megasquirt first start-up guide?

This may have been covered, and if so, I apologize, but is there a thread or checklist of things to do with one of Braineack's megasquirts for the first start-up? I'm having trouble getting my car to fire, and want to make sure I'm not missing anything. I have no knowledge of the tuning software, as I'm completely new to all of this. So again, my apologies if this has been covered. Also, should I be using megatune or tunerstudio? I will be breaking in the motor and doing the tuning on the dyno, but am trying to verify I can start the car before I bring it in (for a little background info).

tuner studio is easier to navigate over MT.

post, in-focus, pics of the board.

then post your MSQ.

You built my board? What do you mean by MSQ?

shows how great my memory is!

what are the details of your setup? im assuming you havent touched any software settings. Let me know at the map I loaded if it's on my laptop here, it may be on my old one.

I did order it a while ago...hah

full standalone
750cc high imp injectors
removed afm
variable tps
COPs
built 1.8l
lots of headwork
258 cams
4bar map sensor
aem wideband o2

How do I find the map you loaded? I haven't touched any settings. Sorry about all the questions, I'm completely new to all this.

ha! Duh.

mighty mouse 06-02-2010 02:43 PM

do you need just the name or the actual file?

Braineack 06-02-2010 02:58 PM

upload the file that you just created and ill take a look.

explain what was happening when you tried to crank. did you install the AIT? did you hook up the MAP sensor?

mighty mouse 06-02-2010 03:09 PM

I attached the file. I installed the IAT sensor (I can see on tuner studio that it's reading the ambient temp now) and I did run that vac line yes. When I try to start the car it just keeps cranking- no sputtering or anything.

Braineack 06-02-2010 03:12 PM

tune looks like it should at least get a sputter out of it... did you jump the fuel pump to activate, you have a 1990 body right?

Yeah I ran a wire from the purple to the light green on the relay. I know I'm getting fuel because when I pull the plugs I can smell it/see it

Braineack 06-02-2010 03:28 PM

under basic settings > engine constants

change MAP type to 400kPa and barometric corrections to off.

see if that helps. can you verify that you're getting spark and/or fuel. do you see RPMs on the virtual dashboard when cranking?

I know I'm getting fuel. I'm going to play with it some more tonight (check spark, do a comp. test). I haven't seen RPMs while I've been cranking, but I believe I was in "offline" mode. I will check that tonight as well.

Braineack 06-02-2010 03:41 PM

if for some reason the MS is not reading the CAS correctly and doesn't show RPMs on the virtual gauge, it will never spark. So please report back and let me know. make sure you're not flooded right now...

Good to know. I'll check this out first. I'll keep you posted!

I am seeing the RPM gauge on my laptop move while cranking the motor over

Once I change these, do I click "burn" or "close". If burn, do I need to disconnect the COPs?

Braineack 06-02-2010 06:22 PM

click burn, then close. no need to unplug coils, only when flashing new firmware.

mighty mouse 06-02-2010 07:44 PM

ok new information.

I'm getting just over 100 psi on the compression test, all 4 cylinders are exactly the same.

I'm getting spark on cylinders 2 and 3.

Cylinders 1 and 4 are not getting a spark. I swapped all of the COPs to the "working spots" on the COP harness (2 & 3), and was able to get a spark. I'm going to try and swap over the stock igniter, coil, and get some plug wires and see if I can get it to start, or even stumble then.
