Megasquirt keeps failing
Hi Guys, wonder if you could help as I am having a nightmare!:vash: For the last 2 weeks my squirt has been failing on a regular basis, symptoms are:
Engine running fine then it just cuts and feels like I am only running on 2 cylinders (like a tractor!) sometimes it clears and sometimes it doesent (had to be recovered the other day. My car is a 93 1.6 with m45 SC, MS v1, LC-1 WB o2. last weekend I re-soldered all terminals on the harness, stripped the squirt down and resoldered most connections, and its still doing it. Initially, I thought it may be something other that the squirt but I have changed the following: Ignitor spark pack CAS Leads Plugs I have also put my squirt on someone elses car with his and my harness and it still happens. I think it may be a fuel based problem as I am getting a spark when this happens. I have been at this now for 2 weeks and I am loosing the will to live!! Can anyone help please... Barry |
MegaSquirt never fails, this is your fault.
Sounds like the only thing you've never changed is the coils. Also sounds like one is going bad. EDIT: Re-read last line. Are you saying you put your controller on his car and he has the same problem? |
I blame your soldering.

+1. Double check your harness. I know you checked it once, but take another quick look. Also, did you clean the board with alcohol after you built it? I've heard of people having issues with the solder flux absorbing moisture and shorting out.
Cheers Barry |

You may be right but I am pretty good at soldering and I have checked it thoroughly, any idea which area of the board could be causing this? Barry |
log that shit! then we can know for sure if it's hardware or software.
|
Check the ground below your TB, that was causing problems for me.

This may just be a coincidence but this problem has only started since I stated to use the auto tune feature on tunerstudio, also, when I get a difference report nearly all the info is missing (rpm, map kpa, choose ts settings etc, all the buttons are missing) this also happens when I try to save the tune, I tried it on a friends laptop - same thing, does anyone else get this?
Could it be that my MS processor is corrupted/knackard? I have reflashed the firmware and downloaded a fresh copy of TS - still got the problem..... Barry |
looks like your spark angle goes crazy high, hard to see...upload your MSQ and the log file please.
|
Sorry but do you mean this?

attach the actual log file and your MSQ to your next post. go to advanced and then attachments and upload them so i can look at it locally.

Just trying to do this:vash:

its saying the msl is an invalid file??

oh yeah they changed the damn file extension from xls...let me fix that.
|
I see weird values in your wheel decoder settings, and you should turn baro corrections.

Here's a log where I dident have a problem.....
|
this is a log of just the car idling correct? (2010-03-01_16.38.58 cutting out.msl)

Your wheel decoder settings are very far off. I don't know if they were originally entered incorrectly or if you had some firmware corruption. I'd probably recommend flashing the firmware again just to be on the safe side, and then recreate your base map by hand. You can find the correct wheel decoder settings, if you need them, on our website under the 4G63 walk through.
|
Yes that is just at idle, did you see the log when I dident have this problem? Really appreciate your help, I have flashed the firmware 3 times now and the problem remains,
cheers bud........ Barry |
take the 255 values out of the two wheel decoder settings lines. otherwise nothing sticks out on the logs as to why it's doing it.

What version of tuner studio actually I was having a weird constant mismatch issue yesterday on v.992
but anyways, I think fixing your wheel decoder settings should solve it. |
I'm on 0.992 but this fault started when it was first launched and I have just kept up with the updates, I thought it was my 2 laptops but I tried it at a friends house last night and the same thing happend when he connected to my ms with his laptop. Apart from the missing information, I generally get difference reports even when I know I have saved the tune.............

There was a bug with TunerStudio 0.991.3 or 4 which could corrupt the maps - I would suggest to build a new map from scratch..

Hi Guys, I have just stripped my squirt down to check the 37 pin connector, I put a mutimeter (on 200k resistance) across all of the solder joints of the male connector and the other lead of the meter on all of the pins, I am getting reading on some of the solder joints from more than one pin. Is this my problem? should all 37 pins be osolated from each other?
Appreciate any help or advice...... Barry |
shouldnt be touching anything else.

Pin 19 and 36 (brn/gry) = 2.3 Pin 19 and 31 (gn/w) = 2.3 Pin 19 and 28 (red) = 60.8 Pin 19 and 26 (gry) = 1.3 Pin 19 and 25 (bl/w) = 1.8 Pin 19 and 21(yel) = 3.8 Pin 19 and 20(orn) = 3.8 Is the above a fault, should there be no continuity at all between these pins? Cheers guys, Barry |
