Megasquirt Still wont start

Last Thread I started I had some issues getting my MS started and still havent been able to get the car started.

I know I have spark on all 4 cylinders, The MS is getting all the inputs it needs. I even thought I got the injectors working as I could smell gasoline in the EX.

Now I cant get even a cough out of the car. I tried changing my coils round didnt do anything, I tried to time it but my timing light only works if the car is runing. I also didnt smell fuel in the EX after sec of cranking.

How do I know if my fuel pump is woking? ( it works with the stock ECU) When i was last trying to get it started I saw a block in the bottom of megatune stating "fuel pump off" but it was grayed out. Should I get fuel pump on signal here? If its not that what should i check next?

Also I have built it as a parallel install and my rad fans will randomly come on after period of cranking, any ideas what this might be?

In your diagnostic box try jumpering fp to gnd, that will force the fuel pump on. What year is your car? 94+ MS should be turning it on.

Its a 95 but I still had to tap into my fuel pump. It used to work but not now, i wonder if it has anything to do with a previous mistake i made where i connected one of the spark outputs to pin 37 not 36.

The FP light green wire is now connected to pin 37 on the squirt. How would I check if there is something wrong with the signal from the MS to pin 37? and can i now just constantly ground the FP?

attach your MSQ and pictures of your board and harness.

Got her working!

I just had to jumper FP to GND and it ran!

Can I leave it like this for now or should i permanently ground the fp or get it working with the MS?

Also I set my base timing with my light, the stripe i painted on was a bit thick compared to the markings for timing, if i am off by half a degree is that an issue?

it's how mine is...

Cheers!

Thanks to everyone that helped me get this far and especially Braineack and Joe Perez for their excelent how to's

I'm glad it's working, but I would recommend properly powering the fuel pump. With FP and GND jumped, the fuel pump will run anytime key is on--which is what you want when driving, but possibly not what you want when sitting in the car with the motor off but key on (like if you're flashing stuff to the ECU), or if you were in an accident where the motor stalled and you were physically unable to turn the key off yourself.

The MS ECU will only run the fuel pump
*for a quick prime with key on
*when cranking
*when running
*in fuel pump test mode (MS2+)
Otherwise it will not run the pump if the ignition switch is on but the motor is not cranking/running.

A half degree of timing error shouldn't hurt anything at this point, especially if you've not started tuning and put some timing back in. Your CAS itself I'm sure adds more than a half degree of error.
A highly tuned, highly strung out motor might not like an extra .5 or 1° of timing, but I'd hope that you've not brought yours to that type of ragged edge. :)

Reminds me of when I did my engine swap, we put the fuel feed/return lines on backwards. Took me a while to figure out WTF was going on!
