Default Trigger Wheels and CAS options for BP4W into NA

Hello all...

I'm pretty close to assembly and am just trying to plan the next step to get this motor running. (BP4W into 92 NA)

I currently have MSPNP1. I was going to use the CAS off the 1.6 but would like to run sequential everything. I have a supermiata harmonic damper, and a 36-1 trigger wheel.

I was hoping to upgrade to MS3 and perhaps utilize the crank and cam position sensors on the bp4w, but in light of Reverants info this may not actually work.

Am I pretty much stuck with using the CAS?

Has anyone been able to compare the differences between the FM 36-2 trigger wheel and the supermiata 36-1? I'd knock one of the teeth out as long as it would work, but it looks like, short of getting an oem style trigger wheel, i'm pretty much cornered into batch fire/injection.

Any ideas would be appreciated as I'm ready to bite the bullet on this immediately.

In for answers and options on this since I am planning to run full sequential on my car.

Bump for answers.

There seems to be preciously little information on both sequential injection and on setting up a crank sensor on an NA (at least that I've found). I've got a spare NB crank sensor, but no idea how to go about getting my NA running on them. Can you just eliminate the NA CAS and extend the wires to the NB crank sensor?

The FM wheel looks like this, TDC is the little arrow, so the missing double teeth are at 9 O'Clock (or 270 degrees, whichever floats your boat).

The SM wheel looks like this:

And looks to have a range of positions, As an educated guess you'll be able to get it close enough to the same position, otherwise you're looking at drilling additional holes.

Should be relatively easy enough to make your 36-1 ape the FM wheel if that's what you really want.

However, it's even easier to lop off the the '2' teeth from the 1 + 2 teeth cam wheel, and then utilise the 36-1 as intended though your MS?

Soviet uses the Protege 36 tooth wheel in his NA.

If what you are looking for isn't there, check the first couple of pages of his build thread (before turbine wheels start coming out of mufflers).

One other note - it's not easy to get from a Gen 1 MSPNP to MS3; the case was designed long before MS3 was even an idea, and getting the MS3 daughterboard in there isn't possible without cutting up the case. Adding the extra MS3 features like sequential injection is equally complicated.

Thanks everyone for the responses. It seems obvious now that the missing tooth location for the FM wheel and the SuperMiata Damper/trigger wheels are in different locations. The oem 36-1 is also offset.

Is it as simple as just positioning the triggerwheel at TDC, and counting the teeth back from #1 to the sensor?

That be what, roughly 280°? (I'll double check later today)

Megasquirt-3 MS3 Trigger Wheel

...and I take it ditch the 99 cam position sensor for a modified NA CAS

any developments with this? i'm looking to do the same thing. does the FM wheel work with the supermiata damper?

FM says to run both the CAS and crank sensor. wiring changes for NA's detailed here:

the supermiata damper has a proprietary trigger wheel.

ok, so I got the MS3 from brain. Just wondering if it is still possible to use the 99 stock VR cam position sensor to run sequential spark. Grind off all but one of the stubs on the cam gear?

Otherwise, how can one modify the optical CAS from a 1.6? I have two but all I read is lobbing off all but the small tooth on a 1.8 magnetic CAS.

Providing power for the trigger wheel sensor... can I just tap the same power and ground from CAS wiring or do I source another switched 12v
