Megasquirted MP62

Got this installed over the weekend just gone and now in the process of tuning, I've started very rich and with rubbish timing for now and am progressing slowly to a decent tune.

I've got a knocksense and sensor from Boris to fit this weekend, I'll feel much happier with active knock control helping me along the way!

anyway this is a cut and paste from the other boards I frequent, big apologies for everyone that's already seen this!

First off washed the car, nicked a mate's throttle cable (thanks again matey! :thumb-up: :thumb-up: ) with the first top down drive of the year, and first top down drive with the 6pt cage, awesome!

So car on Ramps, to help ease the load on my back :)

And a before shot of the engine bay :)

Big box of bits, coffee, and a supercharger :D :thumb-up: Mobile phone, and a once dirty now clean and drying K&N filter :)

Over an hour later the throttle cable is in! that job deserves it's reputation.....

Installing the copper heatshield for the WB

In!

Supercharger bracket installed....

Idler pully assembly installed
http://www.asbi52.dsl.pipex.com/Supe...r/DSC01557.jpg

A decision was to be made on which throttle body to use, the US one I got thrown in with the kit with the funky butterfly opener (I think it gives a less linear opening to make low rev driving easier? or stay with the original. I went with the former and then found my throttle cable didn't fit as it's attachment point was lower down the curve, so the stock one went back on :)
http://www.asbi52.dsl.pipex.com/Supe...r/DSC01559.jpg

Dummy throttle body installed
http://www.asbi52.dsl.pipex.com/Supe...r/DSC01560.jpg

I actually got the charger in place today, but it got dark so didn't take a pic, more to come tomorrow :)

richyvrlimited 03-29-2007 03:20 PM

first off in the morning (5.40 am start as the missus had a shift at 6.... didn't start till about half 7 tho... was to adjust the bracket for the throttle cable so it's straight and true with the pully.

http://www.asbi52.dsl.pipex.com/Supe...r/DSC01561.jpg

then it was a case of attching the charger to it's bracket. I forgot to ake a photo of that bit, but the next job was to test fit the A/W intercooler

http://www.asbi52.dsl.pipex.com/Supe...r/DSC01562.jpg

I flited about between jobs cos I'm a bit scatty at times, so next up was fitting the flex pipe to the throttle body and trim any hoses to fit the pipework

http://www.asbi52.dsl.pipex.com/Supe...r/DSC01563.jpg

fitted the cleaned airfilter

http://www.asbi52.dsl.pipex.com/Supe...r/DSC01564.jpg
http://www.asbi52.dsl.pipex.com/Supe...r/DSC01565.jpg

with the fitting of the airfilter I noticed it was fouling on this bracket for the stock airbox, so I bent it out of the way

http://www.asbi52.dsl.pipex.com/Supe...r/DSC01566.jpg

I then realised it was bolted in place, so I bent it back straight and unbolted it, saved about 3 grams ;)

Extending the MAF wiring :)

http://www.asbi52.dsl.pipex.com/Supe...r/DSC01567.jpg

Done!
http://www.asbi52.dsl.pipex.com/Supe...r/DSC01568.jpg

And the other side....
http://www.asbi52.dsl.pipex.com/Supe...r/DSC01569.jpg

(Can anyone spot the (non)deliberate mistake?)

Next job, I need to mount the A/W pump, one bracket
http://www.asbi52.dsl.pipex.com/Supe...r/DSC01570.jpg

Needs bending....
http://www.asbi52.dsl.pipex.com/Supe...r/DSC01573.jpg

placed the A/W radiator into position, it's actually wedged between my A/C lines tand the bottom of the bonnet catch, 3/4 zipties and It's solid! I'd prefer a more elegant solution normally, but hey, it works!

http://www.asbi52.dsl.pipex.com/Supe...r/DSC01571.jpg

Camera decided to have a fit here, hence the weird colours.
http://www.asbi52.dsl.pipex.com/Supe...r/DSC01575.jpg

Fitted the filler neck, and filled with coolant/distilled water. I also routed the overflow into the stock overflow tank. at ta later date I'm goint to add the overflow tank as part of the system to increase the water capacity.

http://www.asbi52.dsl.pipex.com/Supe...r/DSC01580.jpg

All fitted, and running, Now i need to sort all the wiring out and generally tidy up, then I need to sort a base map out and drive the thing!!

I intend on installing a megasquirt on my Mp62 coldside sometime in the next several months. Would be curious to know if there are any nuances in tuning that may be different than the turbo guys.

yeah torque is instant and continuous, you need to take that into account with your spark table.

I'm not happy with my msq at the moment, but I'd be happy to pass it on in a few weeks when it's better looking ;)

Braineack 03-29-2007 04:56 PM

got anymore copper for the heatsink? I gotta do the same on my WB, i get a heat error after a rev bounced boosted run.

Ben 03-29-2007 04:58 PM

Scott, did you notice which side the brake booster/master is on? I think it would be cheaper to pick some up local. :gay:

BTW, I used aluminum for my heat sink because I couldn't get copper. Aluminum works fine.

I'd love to see it when you're ready. Thx!

i'm interested to hear how you knocksense works. how did you install the knock sensor?

i just emailed fm and they want $17 for their knock sensor motor mount bolt.

ianp 04-02-2007 07:22 PM

Hah! You get everywhere, don't you Richy.

Nice job, though. I hope I get to ride in this car some time soon.

I used metal putty and a spare bolt washers and nut. :)

I found the spot that FM uses and used the metal putty to glue a bolt to the stock engine mount bolt and once dry torqued the Knock sensor to it. works great :)

Knock sense works well. I've tapped the clt line and whenever I get knock there are spikes on that signal. there's also a seperate knock input on MS which is hooked up the KS. whenever there is knock the amount of ignition retard required is displayed there in MLV

hmm, interesting. i wonder, does the metal putty maybe filter out some of the noise?
has it sensed any knock yet?

I'm debating whether a knock sensor is worth my $100.

Yup, it's detected knock :)

I don't see why the putty would filter out any noise, it's basically metal now it's hard?
