welcome to the club, i have 4 sitting in front of me right now.

y8s 03-29-2009 09:04 PM

scott showed me his "I crimp too much" hand today.

then I crimped a bunch of OEM pins for my Adaptronislang.

LostSoulMiata 03-29-2009 11:08 PM

Yay!! :giggle:

Thank you a million times over Joe, I need to buy you a beer or a few

Not only did Joe come out to my house today to help me indentify my '92's many wiring problems, but he's going to redo my MS system and some of the wiring to components for me. This guy is professional in every way. Anyone that has to think twice about getting something done by him or has to think twice about his suggestions, needs to have their head checked! Joe is the man, plain and simple.

Edit - Anyone that wants to make their MS harness simply a DIY plug and play for '90-'93, steal the connector off a Mazda 626 from the junkyard, it's located in the center of the dash under the radio and the hvac stuff. The wiring isn't the same, but the connector on your '90-'93 plugs right in.

Cpt_Slow 03-29-2009 11:16 PM

:bowdown::bowdown::bowdown:

I am not worthy Joe! Thanks tons!

nicacus 03-30-2009 02:08 AM

CPT slow we need to start a utah megasquirt miata club.. I'm in sojo 99.9 percent of the time now days anyway.

Vincent123 03-30-2009 02:26 AM

im still deciding on getting a PNP or a custom one built

LostSoulMiata 03-30-2009 02:07 PM

They both essentially do the same thing, you just don't get a fancy case and save some money w/ a DIY/prebuilt unit which can be a PnP unit as well.

Dont forget the ignition circuits.

OOOOOOHHHHHH BURN

Braineack 03-30-2009 02:18 PM

actually it was the MOSFET driver for the fuel injectors :fawk:

Suffice to say I bought a JimStim after that.

StankCheeze 03-30-2009 03:36 PM

I don't know how you all do it. Wiring my parallel harness and soldering all that crap took me FOREVER and I hated life for every second of it. And I'm not even that bad at soldering.

Braineack 03-30-2009 03:50 PM

you don't think i hate life when I do it? Parallel installs eat away my testosterone.

whipping up a MS is easy compared to whipping up a parallel harness.

I'm down for that. I'm sure I could use your help when I actually get to installing my boxes of turbo stuff.

I meant injectors and I know we were getting spark because I got hit with it. Who woulda thought the spark would jump through insulated pliers and my gloves.

Braineack 03-30-2009 04:29 PM

I love checking for spark that way. puts lead in my pencil and grows hair on my chest.

I'd be glad to help, I'm always looking for something to do on my weeks off.
It would be cool to have someone to help road tune as well. None of my buddies really understand what's going on, they just see they gauges on the laptop screen and say ooooooo neat

It can also cause a heart attack just so you are aware.

Granted its not as bad as getting hit by 110, but still just as dangerous.

Awww Brain, you're making me feel bad....:slap:

Braineack 03-30-2009 05:50 PM

you should!

Joe Perez 03-30-2009 08:35 PM

Cute title change. And I thought there was honor among bastards...

Capt. Slow, your MS shipped out today via UPS, should be there Thursday. Tracking number is deleted so we can all track the status of your package together in collective anticipation. BTW, the beer you sent is pretty darn good. I don't buy lagers very often (they're frequently quite plain) but this one has a surprisingly malty and complex taste.

LostSoul, yours is on the bench now. Before tackling the harness, I decided to re-do all the internal wiring, as it was a bit funky. Here's how it looks now:

http://img19.picoodle.com/img/img19/...om_448835f.jpg

http://img02.picoodle.com/img/img02/...cm_fc8168f.jpg

I installed the .1uf cap on the CAS input (it was missing) and also did the idle transistor upgrade- should help a lot from the way it was before. I was really shocked that Radio Shack actually carries TIP120s in stock. Sadly, they do not carry the mica insulators for them (WTF?) which is why it's just floating up in the air right now. Might head up early tomorrow and stop by Sarasota Electronics on my way to the meet. They close at 5, so unless I can otherwise amuse myself, I'll be at BW3 early.

Shocking news- I stopped by the Nissan dealership on my way back from Punta Gorda, and they do in fact have a load-bearing dyno. It's right next to the Hunter Hawkeye and the RoadForce balancer!!!

Turns out that Harbor Nissan actually owns a little tuning company called Relentless RPM. They're located right there in the dealership, with a little office on the showroom floor and sharing shop space with the service dept out back. I talked with Brad, the manager, for a while. Sharp guy. Turns out they started just as a way to sell chrome and bling to new car buyers, but evolved into an honest-to-gods tuner shop. Got their own fab guy, an ECU guy, the whole nut. This place may be the best kept secret in all of Charlotte county.

You are the mf'in man Joe  Right-clicked, save as...

I'm glad that you redid the wiring, I didn't feel at all comfortable with what was done before I decided to pop the covers off and have a look myself. I'm also glad I decided to just start from square one and I'm glad I got a pro's opinion on it as well. Who knows what problems I would have run into after all was said and done. Let me know what you need from this and I'll get it to you asap, I was in the process of sorting through everything and getting a list of things needed, I had a 1uf cap here, but think back to the early 80's and you'll realize it couldn't have fit in the case . I'll be picking up my replacement sensor for the AEM before I head home tomorrow afternoon. Thankfully if it's the sensor for real, I put antiseize compound on the o2 before I installed it and it'll take less than 10 minutes to swap out.

Best kept secret indeed, WTF?! Did you happen to ask how much Relentless charges for dyno time? I'd put in some money or get a group to come down if we were able to rent if if they were cool with it. I'm shocked about this though because I have friends that work right down the road from Harbor, but they never told me there was a dyno there. You'd think it'd be pretty obvious with cars putting down numbers right down the road :bang: They might actually know people that work there too

I was going to mention that there was an electronics place in Venice since it's less of a drive, but I don't know if he's still there or not. He was right behind the J&J plaza before Seminole on N.US41. Forgot the name of his place, but I'll be tooling around town tomorrow regardless so I'll take a look see. I'll let you know if he's still there and if he is I'll ask if he has anything like that insulator there. Let me know when you're heading up to SRQ also, I'll be out in the MR2 so I can catch the bug again of wanting to put in a turbo in my Miata.

Excellent. I'm way excited to get this in. I'm clearing my weekend to do nothing else than get this working. Glad to hear about the beer. I had no idea what I was buying.

Saml01 03-30-2009 11:34 PM

You know it would take me at most 5 min not including wait time to call UPS and have the delivery address changed to my house for that tracking number.

But you wouldn't do that, because we're all reasonable guys here. (Besides, I'm sure something really bad would happen to your account if you did.) :brain:

Srsly thought. Have you ever actually tried that? They call the shipper at the phone number which they provided. It's frustrating when you're the recipient and you need to make a change, but them's the shakes.

$125 an hour, no setup charge. Which is pretty damn reasonable, IMO.

We discussed this too. They are in fact most certainly cool with it. When he asked what computer I was using, I told him that I build MegaSquirts, and he seemed quite amicable to the idea of bulk discounts, either in the form of a dyno day or just from collectively bringing folks in over time.

Yeah you'd think. And it's not just the dyno either. Like I said, they've got a Hawkeye and a RoadForce machine sitting right next to it as well. I don't think I ever found a shop with all three machines in one place the whole time I lived in SoCal.

And they seem to stay busy. When I got there, a 350Z had just finished putting down something in the neighborhood of 400HP.

So yeah. If there is in fact a group that's serious about it, this would seem to be a good spot. I've been meaning to get no myself to spend some time tweaking my spark map (which is gonna wait until I get the knock sensor to stop falsing, and probably the coolant reroute done) but after that...

I'm a reasonable guy. Dont know about everyone else.

Otherwise, yes, I have tried it, and with success. I just call them and pretended to be the shipper.

TO-220 Mounting Hardware - RadioShack.com

Good luck having one of the lackeys locate it for you when they have one in stock and they have no idea what it's for. Hint: They're not in the transistor bin.

Joe Perez 03-31-2009 11:47 PM

WTF? I could have sworn I searched that whole store top to bottom. And not a mall store, either. I drove all the way the hell out to Punta Gorda to go to a "real" one.

You're right though, they sure as hell aren't in the transistor drawer.

No matter, I ordered a handful of them from Parts Express (the rubbery ones that are both an insulator and a thermal conductor) and they should be here by Friday.

edit: I just used the "Find it near you" function, and sure enough, they're not listed at Punta Gorda or Port Charlotte. Nearest one is in Englewood, which is about 25 miles north of here.

I hate this town...

Great little place ain't it? There's a couple in Venice if you want me to check them out on my way home from work. I'll be in ATL this weekend, so it'll have to be sometime after next Monday before I can get back to you Joe.

LostSoulMiata 04-01-2009 03:19 PM

They have that mount right down the road from me @ a store, want me to pick one up for you Joe?

Braineack 04-01-2009 03:21 PM

i give it a year until radio shack stops selling components all together.
