Megatune disconnecting randomly
I just re-installed my megasquirt to prep for my turbo going in next week. I started tuning some off boost cells, but megatune keeps randomly disconnecting from the controller. All i have to do to get it to reconnect is pull out the USB and put it back in to the laptop, but it is still really annoying and hinders my data logging capabilities. Any help would be appreciated!

I imagine your adapter is good since it came from DIY, but worth a mention since I went through three (yes 3) adapter setups before getting mine to communicate right last week.
I got this based on Brain's recommendation, not a quibble since: GigawareŽ 6-ft. USB-A to Serial Cable - RadioShack.com |

i really dont want to blow $40 if i dont have to (thats $$ for a EBC right there!)
I think it might be a setting within my computer that is causing it to ignore the usb or something. I am going to try re-installing the driver. EDIT: when i clicked the driver install this popped up real quick. Attachment 207406 Is this normal? I am software illiterate And no, that isnt my car... thats revlimeter's old "Sharka" from clubroadster. |
what does the log file look like?
|
i havent logged anything yet. I only drove back to college and i just had autotune running the whole time. Ill try to go for a ride on wednesday and catch one of these disconnects in a log.

Here are 2 logs i did on the way home. Should be about 20 minutes and 40 minutes respectivly.
I dont see anything weird other than the fact that my car IS NOT TUNED AT ALL RIGHT NOW. i just got it drivable, so ignore the fact that it isnt tuned. Every time it disconnected and the screen went pink i unplugged the USB and plugged it back in... megatune came right back and it still said logging. These were on a stock 1.8 with the 550cc injectors installed on DIY's map BARELY touched (not tuned) P.S. ignore my IAT, i was getting heat soak like crazy with the stock intake (it was 45*F ambient) EDIT: it refuses to attatch the files. ill try to post them elsewhere |

Trust me, I know, I didn't want to blow $40 either, but after dealing with that crap for three days I wanted to kick myself when I finally got it and went to town tuning problem free. I hope it works out for you though. It does sound like an adapter/driver/COM port problem. |
Don't get why DIY's cable is so expensive. I've always bought them for about $10 elsewhere. Been using the one of these for about 3 years for router configuration. And have 3 more for MS (Bench, Miata, 240sx).

DXO thanks for the info on the cable. Braineack is building my MS, I order a cable and it should arrive just before the MS. I love not having problems:)

check power management for the device in device manager. Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" if it's checked and see if that helps.
