MP62 Ignition Basemap
 

I'm finishing up my BRP supercharger setup on my 01-05 VVT equipped 1990. I'm running a DIYPNP. I'd like to come up with a decent ignition basemap to get me on the road safely. I'm currently just using an iteration of the basemap for 99-00 Miatas from the startup maps section from DIY. Using the stock injectors for now with intercooler. 77.5 mm pulley ~6 psi Any map or helpful advice would be greatly appreciated. It's worth noting that I won't be using a basemap for long. Just gonna run what I have to more or less shakedown my install before going to a smaller pulley, rx-8 injectors, and a real dyno tune. Thanks all.

1) don't use a 99-00 basemap for a vvt long block.
2) you want something that controls the vvt, so look into ms3 or the vvt controller, because it will suck without it

Had the engine in the car over a year. Been using the vvtuner. I took the 99-00 basemap and pulled some timing in the higher load cells. Been working good, no issues. Just need a starting point for the mp62.

I believe that map was setup using a M45 equipped 99/00, correct? I used that same map with my Rotrex and DIYPNP so its definately enough to get you started. IIRC its pretty damn conservative. Get your idle, fuel and enrichments sorted and go from there.

If you are absolutely lost, go try to find some tables that people are using with similarly equipped cars and compare them to your timing table. Notice I did NOT tell you to use someone elses map, I'm just saying use them as a sanity check. Blindly loading someone elses map, or worse yet, someone elses tune is a great way to blow up your shit.

Where are you at now? Does the car start/idle/drive? If so, that's your "base map" save a copy of it somewhere and get your tune on.

I'd never just use someone elses map. I was just looking for a starting point if anyone had a similar setup. Car runs great right now. I'll prolly just use my same timing map with a little less timing in high load. Already got the current tune saved and working on the new tune. Had to rescale my VE table and so on.

Awesome! That's exactly what you want. Get thyself some detcans and dial in that ignition map.

I guess I'm just confused with the recent influx of people looking for a "base map" as if this was some magical set of configuration settings that works for everything. Its this like a Honda/Nissan/Subaru/VW thing that I'm just not familiar with?

Since the advent of relatively cheap standalones there is some flawed logic out there in people who think that because the factory ECUs are the same on cars, someone else's tune on their modded car would be the same...? I have no idea. Prolly gonna just keep my conservative map for now. I'm going to do a boost/fuel upgrade and spring for some real dyno time to get everything dialed in to perfection.
