MS on 99 Automatic even possible

Hey there all,

Just got done installing the BEGi-S turbo on my Miata and would like to be able to run more than 6 PSI... (go figure, it is addictive)

In lookaing around there is not much mention about running a MS as a piggy on a 99 Automatic. So I was wondering if anyone here has done this as well as if it is reasonably easy to do.

I'm new to Miatas and am not even sure what all signals the stock ECU are looking for and if it's good idea to consider going this route.

Now just to be clear on why I am doing this... I've had manual cars my whole life and now commute in the most horrid traffic around the DC Metro area. I spend 3 hours a day in my car and with bad knees getting in the way of things, it's just better that I don't drive manual in traffic unless I begin to enjoy swelling and painful joints. :vash: (So it's not that I'm lazy or can't drive manual... I'm looking to make my commuter car a fun car too.)

I suppose the primary goal for now is a system that will allow me to boost 12 PSI on stock internals. I have some 315cc injectors and a full compliment of gauges (EGT, AFR, Boost) for "process monitoring." I don't have any issues adding an intercooler, MBC / electronic boost controller if it's all needed; but rather not make my car look like the inside of some alien spacecraft with all the extras.

Oh, so far I suspect that I've got no issue with fuel since I've got the BEGi-FMU to handle the increase in fuel pressure but I do not have anything that controls my timing. Right now I do get knock at WOT and 6 PSI; though no 02 Clamp yet. Everything else is stock, even the exhaust.

Sorry about the long post all, just wanted to open the topic with some background. Thanks in advance for the help!

Cheers,
Prospero

First of all, unless you install a pierberg to recirc your fuel system you cant use an FMU anyway. The NBs all have a returnless style fuel system.
There is no reason you can't run MS on your 99 with an auto trans. The only thing I would be worried about is the transmission itself handling 12 psi or w/e you hope to run. Not many turbo slushboxes around here.
The wiring will be the same for the most part except maybe the TPS, I would have to look. If you interested in reading more about it check out the links in my signature.

I've got the pierberg pump already installed...the FMU is worthless without it; because you can't increase fuel pressure by wishing. :)

Thanks for the advice and suggestion on looking at your links, I'll do that for sure.

Also, FWIW, the auto trans on these cars are actually built for the pickups too and are shockingly strong. From what I've heard it's good for >225ish HP which is about where I would like to be in the end.

Thanks!
Prospero
