MS EBC is awesome
 

So after running the MS for several months I finally got around to installing the GM boost solenoid and tuning the EBC. Wow... Talk about improved spooling... I knew it would help based on what I had read here but there is nothing like seeing it for yourself.

This is two back-to-back comparisons of a fourth gear pull starting from 2000 rpm. First graph is with EBC (open loop), the second without. Notice how with EBC the boost rises quickly until it gets to the target level then goes flat. Without the EBC, the rise rate gradually tapers off (as the WG begins to open) and eventually gets to the target level. Both pulls were to about 6000 rpm. At 3000 rpm the EBC pull is about 2 psi higher than the non EBC run.

Don't you wish you had done it long ago? Now you need a clutch even worse though i'm sure.

hey, there is a feature in MLV to compare to log files. that way you can display them together and it's easier for us to compare. After opening the first log hit Ctrl-C. That'll open the 2nd. Then you can shift them to line em up better with the scroll bar up top

Funny you mentioned that since I was just working on a comparison. The interface is a bit buggy so the resulting overlay is not ideal. I'm going to bring the logs into Excel and put together something better but for now...

Kudos to you since you built my MS and the EBC worked perfectly on the first try. All I had to do was hook up the boost control solenoid and tune the duty cycle table.

I really, really need to get that new clutch installed. I have all of the parts but after driving someone's elses turbo Miata with a lightened flywheel (Fidanza) I want to turn down the replacement stock unit I bought.

I totally agree......its awesome. beyond awesome. Even at 8 psi the car feels completely different to 5 psi. Its so awesome I dragged with a Grand Am of all things and lost because my clutch gave up in 2nd gear.

Yeah, damn clutch. I cannot wait to get it replaced and turn the boost up to 12 psi.

Here is a plot of boost versus RPM I made in Excel. Since the RPM rises faster with the higher boost rise rate, the EBC and no EBC plots cannot be compared well in the time domain since it skews the data. Thus this is a much better plot than those above since it takes the time element out of the comparison.

The improvement in the boost rise rate is very apparent here. For those who crunch data, both trend lines are 5th-order polynomial curve fits. I think the knee at 3000 rpm in the EBC trend line is a little too pronounced and should actually be sharper.
