MS in parallel obd2

I read the FAQ, did a search, and I don't find information that I need. Sorry if I need you guys to hold my hands, but I can't find the info myself. Here's some questions:

Info on my car:
OBD2 97
currently NA, planning on begi S after figuring out MS.
Would like to stay obd2 for inspection purposes. I cannot throw a CEL, or I won't pass inspection.

1) Do I have to get anything extra to install the MS PNP in parallel with my stock ECU? I would like it as pnp as possible. Even if that means paying for a harness to run it parallel.

2) Will I throw any codes?

3) Besides fuel and timing, what are some other advantages to installing the PNP in parallel?

If you run it in parallel and keep the stock MAF it won't throw any codes and you'll still have complete control over the fuel and spark tables.

1.) see my Sticky post in the main MS section

2.) If you remove the MAF it might. Working on that....

3.) boost control, launch control, full control over fuel/spark, run any sized injector you want, control the fans/idle/WI/NOS/etc

FWIW, mine is a 96 OBDII, installing a used Begi S5 with MS in parallel, ask cjernigan (with brain's permission)

I hate asking dumb questions, but........ what are the advantages and disadvantages of removing the MAF?

You have two options of going MS. You can try and install the MSPNP in parallel with the stock ECU which is not what it was designed to do. Considering it is meant to be a full standalone ECU.

Or Braineack offer's a PNP parallel solution that is cheaper than the MSPNP. If he doesn't feel like doing another, I'd be willing.

There really aren't any disadvatages besides a possible CEL. Advantages include no intake restriction, less couplers on the turbo intake, cleaner engine bay.

So I can get all of those features even when installing it as parallel instead of piggyback? That is awesome, and all that is needed is a harness? Would you be able to make me a harness?

Thanks :bigtu:

Removing the MAF was worth 5 hp on my NA'd 97. Why not just plug the stock ECU in for the OBDII check? That's what I'm doing.

I don't want to mess with taking things in and out after the initial install. For plugging the stock ecu back, I'd have to also put in the MAF also. 5hp isn't a big concern for me when I go turbo.

What's your location and local emissions law? In Texas as long as the OBD2 emissions systems are maintained and active I'll pass, so the parallel option is great. If you are in CALI you may have more difficulty.

I am in NY which is almost as strict as CA imo. The car has to get inspected every year, and if there is a CEL there is no way around it. So my stock ECU cannot throw any codes.

Haha.

I am in NY as well and doing exactly what you want to do. Should be installing the MS this weekend. You can IM me if you have any questions, I am sure everything you want to ask I have already asked and then some. Whatever I cant answer you can ask on the boards, I am sure these guys here dont want to be repeating themselves especially after my thread hijacking and nit picking at everything.

edit: you can also search for threads and posts with my name and I am positive you will strike on a gold mine of information that will be helpful to you.
